Microsoft has released its latest update to the DirectX end-user runtime. The update patches DirectX installations on all current Microsoft PC, workstation and server operating systems. Microsoft releases updates to the DirectX end-user runtime on a bi-monthly basis, with security, performance enhancements and features usually forming the update. The latest update or the entire redistributable (for offline installations) can be downloaded from Microsoft here.

just to give you a headsup the redist is not ready for download yet, i believe it gets released many hours later, or even the next day, because the link you provided is for the webinstaller only
here is the redist and the last 1 is of aug 2008.

it will eventually change when microsoft decides to update it.

thanks for the news on this, i like to keep the redist as part of my toolkit.
another thanks goes to eidaraman, for his link to the redists location.

How come this didnt update anything for me?
by: alexp999its possible a game you've installed already came with it. Problems occur when a game needs it, but didnt come with it - hence why i like to keep a copy of the redist.

by: MusselsWierd, I last updated Direct X a month ago. Havent installed any new games since then. Why release a new setup file if there is nothing new for it to pull off the servers?

Its a server issue, it should be fixed in the next few days.

Mussels, about the redist updates, i get them each time when i find them on the MS website, its basically like part of the Windows Updates Scheme for me (once a month heh) Graphics drivers for me on other hand are every 3-6 months. I just hope 8.11 and 8.12 drivers are rockin because i will be upgrading from 8.5
by: REVHEADSo if I download the redist will I get updates?

by: alexp999well the problem is that the page only links to the older one, not the newest.
So if I download the redist will I get updates?

no. this updates DX10 as well.
as has been said a few times now: while the news post mentions the november release, MS are having problems and are only posting the older version. If you already had hte newer version somehow, it would report this one as older.
by: MusselsWierd. So they have released an update, and it dont work :wtf:

Is everyone else getting the same as me on the dxwebsetup version. It just says no update, you already have the same or more up to date.

use the redist when it comes out, the redist force writes where the websetup doesnt.
yes they say that. but even in XP, if you check you'll find a strange tendency for there to be DX10 files.
Also... if we run DX9 games in vista, DX9 has to come from somewhere, doesnt it?

Seems to be working fine for me and i havent updated DX in Vista.......ever. I cancel out of the setups that games try to bring up for DX and they work fine.
by: PP MguireIf it were only a DX9 update, it would have nothing to do with Windows Vista / Windows 2008 OS'es, which are listed in the system requirements. Security and performance fixes are usually generic and the installer downloads files according to the environment it's run on.
Actualy, for DX9 folks.
A whopping 80meg but im going to see if this actualy does anything (Getting the redist cause i too keep them)
Ya for some reason Microsoft announces they have a DX update but doesnt put it on the website for a few days. And ye the DX installer is all in one so it doesnt matter if you have XP or Vista, your system will be updated accordly.

Even If you have DX10, you still need to update DX9. DX10 does not included DX9.
It's the same package for every Windows and includes DX9, DX10 in 32bit and 64bit flavors. Redistributable version that is.
edit: last August version had Aug2008_d3dx9_39_x64.cab, Aug2008_d3dx9_39_x86.cab, Aug2008_d3dx10_39_x64.cab, Aug2008_d3dx10_39_x86.cab, Aug2008_XACT_x64.cab, Aug2008_XACT_x86.cab, Aug2008_XAudio_x64.cab, Aug2008_XAudio_x86.cab and same sort of stuff all the way back to 2005, hence it's size.
