RAZER Admits Lycosa Keyboards Manufacturing Defects, Offers Free Replacement

PC gaming peripherals specialist RAZER, long after releasing the Lycosa illuminated gaming keyboard, has come to admit that a small percentage of its customers may have received products with manufacturing defects. The company zeroed in on serial number ranges belonging to some its earlier manufacturing batches.

Lycosa keyboards with serial numbers starting with MT0803, MT0802, MT0801 and MT07 are affected with certain issues as described in several complaints the company received from its customers and retailers. Those having keyboards with matching the criteria can avail free replacement from the company, even if the product warranty has expired. Visit this page for details.

Is this the problem with the media control keys? Ive heard several people having the media control keys fail after a while..

And aside from that, the keys on these things fade so easily.. I know someone who just have had the keyboard for 5 months, and already key fading was evident..

It's nice that they are doing it for free, though for the same money I could get the G15 :P

GREAT!

I have one of the MT07's and my keyboard has given me problems.

My keyboard's LEDs go crazy. At random times they will begin to just flicker off and on in weird crazy patterns and usually the only way to make this stop is to unplug the USB cable. Also, during this time, the keys do not respond or respond inappropriately...It would happen on average twice a week for me.

I actually contacted Razer about it 6 months ago. I told them what the problem was and they were willing to replace the keyboard then....however, I just never took the time to do it because I do not have a backup keyboard.

Now I will take the time to do while I do not have a gaming machine.

UPDATE:

I've contacted Razer about this via the web page linked in the news article; I have filled out the support form.

I've heard back from customer support. It seems that a customer support rep at Razer by the name of Mike S doesn't seem to want to replace my keyboard....so far.

He has asked me twice in two separate emails to try the keyboard on another machine EVEN THOUGH Razer knows and admits that there is a problem with the early production keyboards with the serial beginning with MT07 - the beginning of the serial on my keyboard.

I have used this keyboard on three different builds in the past year and the keyboard has malfunctioned on each build.

I made it clear to this guy in the response that I sent moments ago that he is annoying me by ignoring the admittance of Razer to the defect and asking that I keep trying on another computer.

I will update this thread again when i have more info.

Try it on another computer...LOL this is their response for everything. I went thorough hell with my sound card, a mouse and headphones to get them replaced..all of which are crap. In the end and $400+ dollars later I just went out and bought an Xfi, logitech and some speakers and said screw it. To this day I can not get RAZER to admit that there were any problems with those products even though I proved that they did not work on other machines. They would just close my ticket.

Never bought a thing from them again and never will.
