CeBIT 2009: DFI

DFI is showing off all of their mATX boards aimed at the gaming enthusiast. These come in all kinds of flavors, sporting all available CPU sockets and also offering multi GPU possibilities. Their newest addition is the X58 based one, which has all the features of an ATX board but gives the user the possibility to pack everything into an mATX chassis.

On top of that the much talked about Megahalems CPU cooler is also present, so DFI is going to be offering this CPU cooler under their brand name. The company who produces the cooling solutions for their mainboards is also the one behind the processor cooler. The Flame Breeze is a cooling solution for the chipset, featuring copper heat-pipes and a large aluminum shrout.

Looks like mATX gaming boards are the in thing atm! Nice. I will definetly be building one if I can get all the parts I want. Mini power houses ftw! :rockout:

They look sweet, I just don't quite get the PCI-e16 Slots of the second one.. But, I know that will be said in due time... The cooler looks sweet, and I see it was next to the Corsair boot! :rockout:

Boards are nice, i just hate the fact that DFI changed the color on the DK boards (JR included) to green from orange, now all their Intel boards look the same :shadedshu

That's the only S775 SLI offering that they have, and if you look into it, the slot closest to the CPU is an x16 slot, while the other is an x2, and it is intended only for a video card to support additional monitors. So really, you aren't intended to run two GTX260s or the like in this board. The one not shown above, my board, is the P45 version that supports Crossfire, but the PCI-E lanes (spaced properly) are hard locked to run dual 8x, even if you only have 1 GPU.

YUM YUM :rockout: 790GX based goodness will be my next board, be if from DFI, Biostar or Jetway. One of the Jetways supports DDR2 as well as DDR3 though :respect:

What portability?... it's a few inches shorter than ATX and fits in ATX cases. Not to mention that there are no low profile vga cards for "gaming enthusiast", if I'm not mistaken...

When you use a case like the Antec Mini P180, you have no clearance issues for anything, and you can have a beastly rig in a smaller case that's a lot easier to haul around than let's say a Cosmos S.

actually the newest one is the AM3 one on the right? I don't see that one listed on their website yet. The X58-T3H6 has been available for about 4-5 weeks now.

mATX is a pain in the ass, what you need is a case that is supposed to be mATX but you;ve modded to fit a full ATX board. yeh that wud b sexy, im soooo considering doin it w. mine, all i gotta do is find an extra half inch n i can get a decent atx board in there :p

Yes but IMO it's by far the best case of its size. That and the limitations of a mATX case make it extremely fun to watercool which I will be doing within the next week :) If you like, check out my project log in my signature.
