LaCie Introduces Three ''Keys'' for Handy Portable Storage

Today LaCie announced three new ways to carry digital content - LaCie itsaKey, iamaKey and PassKey USB key drives, design by 5.5 Designers. The inventive, compact key-shaped design conveniently fits in a pocket or on a key ring. The itsaKey and iamaKey store up to 8 gigabytes of flash memory. Alternatively, the PassKey has a built-in microSD card reader, which allows you to use your memory cards as stylish and handy USB keys.

Resilient to the rigorous treatment that often befalls common keys, the three USB keys are built with sturdy metal, making their surfaces tough and dependable. Additionally, the Gold SIP connector on the iamaKey is both water- and scratch- resistant, making it one of the thinnest and most durable flash drive choices on the market.

"Following the popularity and usefulness of flash memory today, LaCie has merged the ubiquitous USB interface with a very mobile and convenient form factor, a key that you always carry with you," said Luc Pierart, Business Unit Manager of Peripherals & Accessories. "The LaCie Key products bring an ease-of-use to our customers, making it easy to access, store, and share large amounts of content on-the-go. After all, it's a Key."

Supported by the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, the LaCie iamaKey, itsaKey and PassKey can be used with both PC and Mac. Hi-Speed USB not only offers universal compatibility and cross-platform convenience, but features a hot-pluggable connection and outstanding high speed transfer rates of up to 30 MB/s for key drives. The PassKey ensures users can quickly and effectively bring new life to an old microSD card, saving time, money and resources. In addition, the PassKey is versatile; you can easily change the capacity by swapping the microSD card (or micro SDHC).

As products of the 5.5 Designers firm, LaCie Keys provide users a convenient way to store and take their data with them wherever they go.

Availability
The LaCie Keys are available now, starting at $9.90. LaCie products are available through the LaCie Online Store or LaCie resellers. For more information, visit www.lacie.com.

I would have seriously gotten the microSD reader one (2nd from right) if only that one was as slim as the other 2. But it is a lot bulkier, for which case, there are already much smaller readers.

These things are somehow so very loath-able...

But I can see how they may also be practical, when compared to all of my plastic dongle drives with loose caps that keep getting lost, or fall on the floor and get run over by the chair as you shift backwards to pick them up...

Yeah, these look pretty cool, but I can imagine they will be a bit pricier per gig.

Is it like this one(next to dime):

The silver one is a 2gb Sandisk Titanium I have had for like 2 years (really nice drives, but the 16gb is too expensive for me). I got the Kingston (black 16gb) one recently for about 3 bucks (and some of my time) with shipping. :D

I think the one I just ordered on eBay a couple of hours ago is even smaller than that, for about $2 xD.

And back on topic, I think $10 for that bulky-key-looking reader is kind of too much imo.

Cool, I would also recommend deal extreme if you have never been there. They have a ton of dirt cheap stuff, all with free shipping (that takes like 3 weeks, so plan ahead on your orders ).

Here is a search for "microsd":

mines smaller than that dime one - its the USB plug with just enough length for the microSD card behind it. The only way to get it out of the slot is to pull on the lanyard cord that came iwth it.

Yeah its weird how close to nothing is branded from deal extreme, because it basically comes straight from the factory in China, in a bag, post.
