WD Bumps My DVR Expander Capacity to 1 TB

Expanding consumers' TV recording capabilities by hundreds of hours, WD today announced in the U.S. that its My DVR Expander is now available with 1 TB capacity. Consumers can instantly and seamlessly expand their TiVo DVR recording capacity by simply attaching the My DVR Expander to their TiVo DVR.
TiVo Verified compatible with TiVo Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs, the new My DVR Expander is capable of storing up to 140 hours of high-definition (HD) television programming based on 1 TB of hard drive storage. The My DVR Expander, which utilizes an eSATA connection, is perfect for consumers who need more room to store the ever-expanding HD entertainment options offered by their service providers.

"It is a great time to be a TiVo user because of the countless entertainment options available with just a click of the TiVo remote," said Andrew Morrison, director of Platform Product Marketing, TiVo Inc. "In this universe of unlimited content, WD is helping save avid TiVo users from ever having to make the painful decision of choosing one show over another, something we know will be well received in the TiVo community. And the My DVR Expander fits in with the TiVo philosophy perfectly as it is reliable, easy to use, and makes the experience of HD television even better."

"As the amount of HD TV programming continues to grow, TiVo customers have an even greater demand for storage capacity," said Dale Pistilli, vice president of marketing for WD's branded products group. "WD's My DVR Expander lets consumers spend more time enjoying a wider variety of recorded programs rather than figuring out which shows to delete when they run short on disk space."

Compatibility
My DVR Expander has been tested and verified compatible with TiVo Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs.

Availability and Pricing
The new TiVo Verified My DVR Expander with 1 TB capacity is available now at select retailers and in the U.S. through WD's online store (www.shopwd.com). Pricing for My DVR Expander with 1 TB is $199.99 USD.

the only advantage of this drive is that it doesn't turn its self off like most drives do.

but you can't expand the capacity of the box's that the Cable providers use. Not that I've seen anyway.

ha, unfortunately, from what I've read, that doesn't work either. the firmware on the box doesn't register anything bigger than 160GB so even if you throw in a 1TB drive, it will only use 160GB...
