Microsoft Windows 7 RC Available for Download

The wait is over, Microsoft has published the official download page for Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC), that's not some pirated torrent link. Offered now directly from Microsoft are five different language versions (English, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish) of both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 RC. Minimum system specs to run Windows 7 include:
  • 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Don't waste more time, and go directly to the Windows 7 RC download page.

Everyone is getting the Java downloader, right? I find it funny they're using that to serve the ISO's and not some sort of Silverlight-based version or something...

cyrieneIt took Creative forever to make decent Vista drivers. I wouldn't count on them to jump all over Win7 either, but it would be nice.

I downloaded the RC1 last night without issue. I don't have a machine to put this on yet, but when school is out maybe I'll throw it on my laptop for fun.
Yeah, thats what held me back in purchasing a better sound card until recently too. Not just X-Fi but sound card manufacturers in general took forever to get decent drivers out.

One glaring issue that I have had with Vista that I hope is cleared up by 7 is allowing for hardware sound acceleration. Vista doesn't do it, at all. Whatsoever. So while your sound card may end up cleaning up your sound and making it sound crisper and clearer than integrated at least, its processing and encoding power is not being utilized because Vista forces it to be processed by the CPU anyway.

WeerI've got Windows 7 beta 7077.

Does this finally fix the X-Fi compatibility, or am I crazy for thinking that's possible by any other means than Creative actually releasing Windows 7 drivers?
They have released Beta drivers for the Xifi on Win 7, I am using them now without issues :)

Downloading x64 now and also x86 for the laptop i am getting tonight. Only problem i am facing is that the laptop has 16gb SSD (which is all i need personally) But Windows 7 RC recommends 16gb...Now we all know that you never get the full size stated on the hard drive. Do you think I will be able to install it on my laptop with a pinch of luck?

I squeezed windows 7077 (x86) onto a 8gb partition. Had barely any room to breath though lol (400mb, didn't check what happened to the pagefile, since I've now got it on the main partition).

I'm downloading RC

YET

I'm installing Build 6850 right now(via USB :p). Now I enlisted the PS3 40Gig HDD(never found that stupid SSD) split it in half. I'm going to compare which one is faster than the other. Reason is I really really really LOVE build 6850 I HAVE ZERO ISSUES.

the releases will continue in RC's, until MS beleives they have all the bugs fixed. then it goes RTM. Rarely does an OS every pass RC2. (iirc, 2000 hit RC3)

Thanks Gzero :)
I asked this in another thread but i think it is more suited in this one.

I am trying to install the x64 now, but it keeps wanting me to install the cd/dvd drivers. I have googled around and alot of people are having this problem. I can't seem to get passed it and i don't know what drivers to download and use. I have tried running threw IDE and Sata and changing it to IHCI in BIOS but still no luck, I have also tried re burning the disk and it still doesn't work, any ideas?
