ASUS Eee Keyboard to Launch by End of June

First debuted during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, ASUSTeK's Eee keyboard is now said to ship sometime by the end of June. According to Engadget Chinese the keyboard/PC combo will ship in June with specs that should include an Intel Atom N270 processor, a 32 GB solid-state drive, 800x480 pixel touchscreen display that doubles as a trackpad, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth, HDMI-out, stereo speakers and a mic. The keyboard PC is running Microsoft Windows XP as standard. Two versions of the ASUS Eee keyboard will be launched, a wired one that will carry a $400 price tag, and a wireless one that will bump the price to $600. Expect more detailed information next month.

So it's a PC that just needs a display plugged in? Innovative, but what really makes it better than a laptop? The Eee pc I'm using right now has similar specs and it can output to an external display as well.

I believe the display is that little black window on the end of the keyboard as the resolution is 800x480.

good point... i cant see why i would buy this over something more useful... like an eepc or a nice lappy :wtf:

It's smaller and cheaper than a nice lappy, with a much bigger keyboard than an Eee PC. Especially with a wireless video connection, this freestanding PC can turn into an internet and low power HTPC as well as a very fancy remote, while maintaining the functionality of a normal Eee PC.


The wired version would have a lot less appeal in my mind, because it looses the remote quality once it's tethered to the external screen.

There designs are great whats out of control is this EEEEEE name its getting silly. Eee started out with a purpose now all theese great products are wasted on a horible name. (well it wasnt at the time but getting silly) Im sure theres an Eee rampage in the works. The keyboard looks great tho.

so what, is it supposed to be pronounced like a long "EEEEEE" or is it supposed to be three seperate "e's"?

i think if they named it the ePC, then it would sell better, slightly.... but then what do i know? i'm just a consumer....

either way, they could come up with a WAYYY better name than the one that their "fresh outta college, hip, new age" marketing dude came up with...

Actually, it seems like 480x800. And the dot pitch would be far too small to use while sitting upright, typing on the keyboard. It's really silly of them to have bumped up the price with making it a functional display.

This takes me back a decode or two.... They had these keyboard computer hybrids way back... you had to load the OS from a floppy drive every time you turned on the computer...

ALSO. I have a mATX computer and am building an ITX computer.. simply So I can have a low-powered work machine to do my programming on. I would quite happily buy this keyboard thing.... once the atoms get a bit more powerful...

I'd say more of a Sony Vaio laptop type keyboard with a screen at the end.
But it is yet another device that I don't have interest in. Idk when I would use that really.
Great concept though, kinda. I could see it breaking pretty easily too...

I'm really starting to believe that both Asus and Apple are either working together or getting most of their designs from other people -- just look at the new "slim" eeepc. Looks a LOT like a Macbook Air.
