Intel Core i5 Lynnfield 2.66 GHz Tested

Intel's quad-core Core i5 2.66 GHz processor based on the Lynnfield core, was tested on an Intel reference-design P55 motherboard (DIBX_CRB) by forum members of XFastest. The processor accompanies 2.80 GHz and 2.93 GHz variants higher up in the series, and is expected to be priced at US $196.

The test bed was put through 3DMark Vantage (Performance and eXtreme settings), Cinebench R10, Queen, Photoworxx and AES tests of Everest. The GPU is of little relevance, as the CPU test 1 is what is to be looked at. At Queen, the setup with 4 cores and HyperThreading enabled, edged a dual-Xeon L5320 (8 cores) setup. It proved to be roughly 25% faster than Core 2 Extreme QX9650 at Photoworxx, and scored marginally higher than it AES. More pictures of the motherboard at the source.

MelvisYea that could be it, but the fact is that EVERYTHING here in Australia is more expensive not just computer parts, it goes for food, and house bills, Electricity, land rates, Dentist ($300 a tooth pull) and fuel/Gas etc just every day stuff, you name it, it be more expensive, air flight tickets, i just payed for my GF flight here to Australia it cost me $1400 to pay for her flight, if i was to get the same ticket over here to send me over there it be closer to $3500 :shadedshu

We just live in the most rip off country i can think of lol

Don't mention the fuel... I drive 120km per day, meaning every two to three days (depending on my driving style) I gotta refuel. And everytime I refuel, it costs me 60-70 CHF. So with the money I spend on fuel every week I could by an E8400.

My question is if there will be DDR2 i5 systems, then I could get an i5 with a board and it would be a nice 300-350 dollar upgrade.

Would be nice if you could reuse your RAM. Then you could spend the money you save on a better board or food.

Or an AMD platform since they use DDR2 still :p Pretty sure these will be DDR3 exclusive.

Core i5 won't be using DDR2. It has a DDR3 only integrated memory controller.

OK, so I guess it'll just have to be a nice 350-400 dollar upgrade :p

Yeah, but still ~$60 cheaper than a Phenom II X4 955 + 790FX AM3 board + 4 GB dual DDR3, for building from scratch.

I think we'll see a lot of good P55 boards come out around the $120-150 range.

The X58 boards have dipped below $200 for the lower end ones, so other than the premium (competitive LN2 overclocking kind) boards, I expect they will be in the $100-200 range.

You can't call an ECS a lower end X58... yet it is 190$ - 20$ mir

I expect the same thing as you ;)
