Having released the 120 mm copper monstrosity, the CNPS9900, Zalman is looking to give the NVIDIA-branded CNPS9700-NT an update, only this time, there's no NVIDIA branding to be seen. The CNPS9900-NT is decked with nickel-plated copper, which gives it the chrome appearance. Between the two copper-fin blocks, is nested a 120 mm green LED lit fan, which gives the same illumination as the older NT versions of Zalman's coolers. It measures 94 x 131 x 152 mm (LxWxH), and weighs in at 730 g. The fan spins at speeds between 1000 and 2000 rpm. The cooler supports all current CPU socket types, including LGA-1366, LGA-1156, LGA-775, and AM3/AM2(+). It packs a tube of the company's ZM-STG2 thermal compound. When released in Europe, it is expected to sell for 70 EUR.

I am very pleased with my version (CNPS9900 LED). Clearance - more clearance... I can use all my mem slots, also easily clears the chipset heatsinks on the motherboard. It mounts easily and temps are better than I had with four other coolers... 41 to 43 idle(depending on room temp) and ran two hours on prime and never broke 59.
All this and no slashed fingers!:)

I'll be getting this unless it's outrageously priced. Love my 9500. The nVidia versions look super sexy too!

It does support AM3.

Wow, I remember the 9700 NT from 3 years ago.
Only question now is - what's the next one going to be called. Although, two numbers up in 3 years.. I think they have some time to decide.
Saddest thing is.. these used to be the flag-ship coolers on the market. They are completely pwned by Thermalright.

The sad thing is, the original 9900 gets beat by 30$ coolers from Xigmatek and gets obliterated by Noctua and ThermalRight. Why make a more expensive version that will perform the same??
they are going with if its not broke dont fix it, just make it larger

Right, that's what I forgot to say. My fault.
It's because now Zalman is not/no longer wants to be competing in the high-end tier. This cooler is budget oriented.
And if for some reason the price is not right.. then maybe Zalman went crazy. I won't blame them.. Zalman used to be the name for the best coolers back when I was starting out. It's sad.
OFF TOPIC: And for the love of God, get that ridiculous statement out of your sig. TJ is as respected a member of the Atheist community as any good man, but he's got iron in his heart, and I love Nickelback. Don't get me wrong. I talked to him.. he's a nice guy.

I don't really get it either. Their two first albums were ok at the time. They were a bit rough, and I for one believed they would evolve to a good band, but they stayed exactly the same. I have no idea how many albums they've released, but sometimes I hear something new on the radio and it sounds exactly like everything else they've done.
Also, I think the Nickelback-hate grew into a meme.
What exactly does Nickelback have to do with the Zalman CNPS9900-NT? Maybe because the cooler has Nikel plating so somehow Nikelback relates?

My sample wasn't bad performing at all. It was better than the core contact freezer, which is similar to the Xig offerings.

Had the 9700 NT for 6 months, it was really nice and quiet. Hope this is a worthy successor...

I agree, it seems like Zalman price their products more on how attractive it is rather the performance. I'm not saying their coolers are bad, they are just way over prices.
