NZXT Announces the Noctis 450 Mid-tower Chassis

NZXT is redefining bold chassis design with its new PC case, the Noctis 450. The mid tower case is equipped with a unique blend of modern functionality from an award winning chassis and a streamlined yet aggressive exterior design style. Noctis introduces a new overlay of floating ventilation panels and a generous amount of mesh to bring you an uncompromising combination of design and function. The case comes with ambient underglow lighting in addition to NZXT's signature I/O LEDs and the lighting switch is updated to allow for multi-step adjusted lighting configurations.

The floating panel design provides 10 times more ventilation surface area compared to NZXT's award winning H440 case. For added cooling, Noctis 450 features a PWM fan hub that can support up to 8 fans. To take advantage of the PWM fan hub, users can connect it to the motherboard to allow for PWM signals to convert to voltage signals for case fans. Users can also connect the PWM fan hub to a Kraken product and adjust fan profiles via CAM. Additionally, the case comes pre-installed with three FN V2 120mm fans in the front and one FN V2 140mm in the rear to provide optimal cooling out of the box. Supporting both 140mm and 120mm fans, the steel top and front panels come Kraken ready and can fit radiators up to 360 mm.

AMD "Zen" CPU Core Block Diagram Surfaces

As a quick follow up to our older report on AMD's upcoming "Zen" CPU core micro-architecture being a reversion to the monolithic core design, and a departure from its "Bulldozer" multicore module design which isn't exactly flying off the shelves, a leaked company slide provides us the first glimpse into the core design. Zen looks a lot like "Stars," the core design AMD launched with its Phenom series, except it has a lot more muscle, and one could see significant IPC improvements over the current architecture.

To begin with, Zen features monolithic fetch and decode units. On Bulldozer, two cores inside a module featured dedicated decode and integer units with shared floating-point units. On Zen, there's a monolithic decode unit, and single integer and floating points. The integer unit has 6 pipelines, compared to 4 per core on Bulldozer. The floating point unit has two large 256-bit FMAC (fused-multiply accumulate) units, compared to two 128-bit ones on Bulldozer. The core has a dedicated 512 KB L2 cache. This may be much smaller than the 2 MB per module on Bulldozer, but also indicate that the core is able to push through things fast enough to not need cushioning by a cache (much like Intel's Haswell architecture featuring just 256 KB per core). In a typical multi-core Zen chip, the cores will converge at a large last-level cache, which routes data between them to the processor's uncore, which will feature a DDR4 IMC and a PCI-Express 3.0 root complex.

AMD Readying "Godavari" APUs for May Launch, 14 nm APUs in 2016

AMD is readying its next-gen APUs, codenamed "Godavari" for launch in May 2015, according to industry sources in Taiwan. A successor to "Kaveri," Godavari will feature updated "Excavator" architecture based CPU cores, and the latest Graphics CoreNext 1.2 based stream processors on the integrated GPU. The APU will feature PCI-Express gen 3.0 and high-speed DDR3 integrated memory controllers, just like its predecessor "Kaveri," and could be based on the existing FM2+ platform. These chips will compete against some of the entry/mainstream variants of Intel's Core "Broadwell" processors. It's likely that these chips could be built on existing 28 nm process.

It's also being reported that AMD will launch its first APUs based on the 14 nanometer fab process, codenamed "Summit Ridge," in 2016. These will be succeeded by "Raven Ridge" APUs in 2017. AMD could use Samsung and GlobalFoundries to make its 14 nm chips. Lastly, AMD is reportedly in talks with ASMedia to integrate its USB 3.1 controller logic into its new motherboard chipset, which it plans to launch in September 2015.Source: DigiTimes

DeepCool Launches GamerStorm TriStellar ITX Chassis

A week after its debut as part of CyberPowerPC's Trinity gaming desktop, DeepCool launched the GamerStorm TriStellar mini-ITX chassis, so PC enthusiasts can cram in whatever hardware they want. It may be designed for mini-ITX motherboards only, but this is not a lunchbox sized case you can tuck away behind your flatscreen. It measures 435 mm x 395 mm x 388 mm (WxDxH), and takes up the same volume inside a carton as a cubical ATX case of comparable dimensions would.

Its design involves three temperature-isolated chambers with a triangular projection, which converge at a central hub for cabling to route between them. The bottom-right chamber houses a standard-height mini-ITX motherboard tray with just enough clearance for a stock CPU cooler (up to 80 mm height), or an AIO liquid cooling block with a 120 mm radiator. The bottom-left chamber houses the standard ATX PSU bay, a slimline optical drive bay, and two 3.5-inch drive bays. The top chamber has three expansion slot covers, although there's just one PCI-Express gen 3.0 x16 riser. There's enough volume for a GeForce GTX TITAN-Z dual-GPU graphics card. This chamber offers another three 3.5-inch tray-type drive bays with hot-plugging back-planes and 2.5-inch support. DeepCool didn't disclose pricing.

Scythe Ninja 4 CPU Cooler Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of Scythe's latest flagship CPU heatsink, the Ninja 4. The fourth generation Ninja gets a unique new symmetrical square fin design, which is split in a way that makes it look like the heatsink has four fin stacks, with a nice four-edged shuriken pattern in the center. The fin stack is fed by six 6 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes, making for 12 ends, three-each for the four lobes of the fin-stack.

The Ninja 4 heatsink can mount 120 mm fans on each of its four sides. It measures 130 mm x 130 mm x 155 mm (LxDxH) without fan, weighing 900 g. Without any fan installed, the Ninja 4 can handle CPUs with TDP of up to 65W. With one of more fans installed, it's game for most high-end CPUs. Sockets supported include LGA2011v3, LGA1366, LGA115x, AM3+ and FM2+. A Scythe Hayabusa 120 PWM fan is included. This 120 mm fan spins between 300-1500 RPM, pushing between 12.93-84.64 CFM of air, with 12.5-29.5 dBA of noise output, taking power input from a 4-pin PWM header. The Ninja 4 is launched in Scythe's home market of Japan.
