For temperature monitoring to work your card must have the LM63 monitoring chip.
All Radeon X800 boards support temperature monitoring. On the X800 series the LM63 chip is located here:
On the Radeon X800 Non-Pro/XL/X850 the LM63 chip is located here:
On the Sapphire 9600XT Fireblade Edition the LM63 chip is located here:
On the Radeon 9800XT or 9800 Pro with XT PCB the LM63 chip is located here:
ASUS uses a Fintek F75373S sensor chip instead of the LM63. On the A9600XT the chip is located here:
On the Radeon X700 the LM63 chip is located here:
On the Radeon X1300 the LM63 chip is located here:
