just find all the overscan and 'enhancements' and turn them off on both ends. its annoying, but 99% of the time you can just set all the crap to 'off' and it works a lot better.
I rarely encounter options like that. Most monitors I've used treat HDMI as something truly different than DVI, yet stop short of offering TV level tweaking options for dealing with it.
