I'm going to half to agree with Solaris ckn. It seems like the board is having tantrums. I had very similar issues with my K9A2 Plat and once replacing the board all of my problems went away.

I did a 5.1xx run at same speed (AIR with the Mega Shadow), but it was with the stability issues I was having so it was acting funny. Crashed before screenshot. Then I couldnt' boot. I let is sit and then cranked it on defaults and it went. But like I said I was having some issues back then

Yeah, you must have been having issues. I had that chip at 4.5ghz on just 1.375v.

4.5 Ghz i do at 1.35v. 4.65ghz thats almost 4.7ghz Paul. it needs a shot load of more voltage.

just ran furmark and intel burn test for about 4-5 minutes. card gets wayyy to hot so I stop it. at these settings. perfectly fine.

Hello everyone,

Why don't we bring this thread back

I am having the same problems with my 9800GX2 again. I loose my display, and the fan either spins up and down, or just stays at full blast till I restart. My sound loops as well after a few seconds.

Observations:
1- happens even if the computer is idle. Just takes a while, overnight let's say.
2- Furmark causes it to happen after a few seconds/minutes
3-does it after an hour or so of gaming

What I have done
1-reseated card/power connectors
2- uninstalled sound card/drivers

I had this issue once and removing my soundcard did the trick, it was fine for a few months. Now its back, sound card is out and it's still doing the same thing. I'm really starting to think this card is fucked!

BTW, system is completely stock. No overclock on anything.

you ever try replacing the TIM on the GX2? One of those GX2 solaris has was mine. It would run fine til temps got above 105'c, then it would start artifacting. Never had it do what your expereincing, but still might be the cause.

Yeah, I did. During Furmark last time it ran stable temps were 90/93ºc after like 7 minutes. Gaming with fan on auto max it goes to is about 84ºc. I really think this card is just fucked. If I recall correctly, the issues I have been having started when this card arrived to me. Whether it conflicts with my sound card or not, never had issues with my 4870.
