That card looks massive and the whole point of HBM is to make cards smaller without sacrificing anything. If that were a 390X, I'd be concerned it doesn't use HBM. I'm inclined to believe Greneda at least has HBM.

HBM should be cheaper to manufacturer than GDDR5. I suspect the delays with the launch were to get supply going so they don't have to charge an arm and a leg for HBM.

Those Prices are for GDDR5 cards not HBM, HBM being new memory is expensive and low yields means that there will be NO 8gb versions for a while. least 2-3 months from what i heard.

So they're gonna do the rehash route.

AMD have done rehashes since the 6xxx series. The last top to bottom refresh was probably the HD 5xxx. Everything since has been knocked down two slots by a new silicon, taking the 1st and 2nd posts.

The 7xxx series was reasonably new, but it wasn't top to bottom Pitcairn, they dropped in a lot of different architectures in that. I suppose in that respect 7xxx was sort of new, but I'm just reiterating that AMD don't really do top-down refreshes anymore.

they arent rehashes, they are respins.

They will have more performance, and upgraded silicon.

Fiji (internal name is Fury, unknown retail name)
Hawaii >> Granada (390/x)
Tonga >> Antiqua (380/x)
Pitcairn >> Trinidad (370/x)

Tahiti is gone.

The will be on GloFo's 28nm HP+ fab wich is rumored to give 20% more performace over TSMCs 28nm process.

Add silicon tweaks, and they could be very nice cards.

This is all rumor of course (other than Fiji)

Fury with 4 GiB VRAM? Preposterous!

It has been confirmed over and over by AMD: the interposer AMD will use for HBM cards will feature 4 stacks only. HBM 1.0 stacks go up to 1GB so Fury(Fiji) will be a 4GB card, at least until HBM2.0 is rolled out.

There's a rumour saying that there's going to be an 8GB GDDR5 version but I think they're mixing up the 390X(Grenada) with Fury(Fiji).

Potato Pahtato.

Basically, they overclocked Hawaii by binning it higher. It's not like they went into the silicon mines and got better silicon with which to make their chips. I doubt there are even on die changes... I mean why would there be when you can just bin it higher due to better manufacturing?

EDIT: Oh wait, I missed that line about a new process. If that is true, then I will recant what I Just said.

well, guess ppl like me in the 200 € range gpu will have to wait for the 16 nm... the ecxiting stuff is only in the High-end.I know that amd have to deal with a very tight budget, but they really couldn't make the 300 serie a full gcn 1.2 ?
I know that pitcairn will stil give ppl an honorable showfor the price, but still...

that, and yes, there will be die changes.

Rebinning does not change the name, die changes do.

Tonga/Hawaii/Tahiti/Pitcairn were all on TMSC.

Fiji/Grenada/Antigua/Trinidad will all be on GloFo.

i must point out again, its all rumor.

There isnt a lick of proof other than previously released roadmaps which as we know change sometimes.

yhea but tonga is basically an enhanced tahiti, with better tesselation, vsr, true audio, freesync, better dx12 performance, and a more modern uvd...an enhanced pitcairn would'nt hurt either >.>....Nvidia is one year ahead for the H265 support...An amd Fx is also good for the price, but the AM3+ platform feel really old against lga 1150...I'm starting to feel the same about the gpu....

This is very true. I've changed last two cards purely out of curiosity and not necessity. HD6950 was because of EQAA support and some other goodies and HD7950 because of GCN and MLAA. R9-390 will be for HBM, VSR and all the other goodies that I missed by not going R9-290...

That's normally how I feel, but I've started getting some inconsistent performance because the 1GB frame buffer, which might be great for a single 6870, but it's simply not enough for two of them at this point. Plenty of GPU muscle, lacking on memory. So while I would prefer to wait until HBM 2.0, I really would like better performance sooner rather than later. I guess that depends on how the 300 series turns out.

Side note: I'm trying to convince myself to not get a 980 Ti.

Look at the slide again. It's talking about HBM2 over HMB1 in capacity. According to Hynix (the people who co-developed the stuff with AMD) HMB1 can support more than 4GB unlike what the rumors say.

Yeah but the rumours are all based on leaks that everyone takes as gospel, HBM1 might do 1 and 2GB stacks (of 4?) but all the sources say Fiji is using 4GB memory. Frankly I'm out of my depth on this one anyway so I'm happily waiting to see if I buy a EKWB for a Fiji or Maxwell chip.

And before anyone says Fiji is watercooled, it doesn't count if i can't play with my own tubing.

XFX Radeon R9 390X leaked by XFX..

Apparently the best place to look for leaks is the XFX website. The Radeon R9 390X, which is in fact slightly faster R9 290X equipped with 8GB memory, can be found on their website under .. R9 290X product page.

The packaging does not tell us much about the product itself, but it is without a doubt the R9 390X with 8GB GDDR5 memory. The card comes with free Dirt Rally, it has unlocked voltage and brand new cooler with diamond-shaped texture. The cooler is equipped with 7 extended heat pipes.

In case you forgot, this is the exact same card we saw 2 months ago. well almost the same, there are no gold rings around the fans.

XFX Radeon R9 390X has four display outputs: DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort. The R9 390X is supposedly based on Hawaii silicon with 2816 Stream Cores.

Radeon R9 300 series are expected to launch on June 16th.

DVI-I!?! I thought AMD killed off the RAMDAC on R9 series. Also a shame that HBM is only coming to the Fury cards. :(

Edit: That is not DVI-I. Look at it closely: both are DVI-D. They are physically incompatible with DVI-A connectors which sucks because if they're all that way, I need new DVI-D cables (mine are DVI-I but only carry digital signal).

When I get one of these cards, I'm going to have to blow $117 just on cables/converters. :(

it's too expensive to make full line up migration to new tech. amd cant afford to do refund/replace for everyone if something with HBM fucks up
