Whats the smaller scale battles like in BF4? Honestly, I'm not a fan of the massive battles and prefer small fights like 5 v 5 etc. Never played a BF and curious whether I'd like it or not :)

If you prefer small fights then stick to CQ game mode or CoD, BF has always been about big maps and higher player cap.

you can get a decent 16v16 on CQ & TDM but 8v8 or under im not so sure, Ive seen a few 2v2 and 4v4 servers around though but they might be a bit hard to find and probably empty or full with a long queue.

If you wanted a taste of BF Get Bad Company 2 which can be found for dirt cheap now. Sadly you are too late to get BF3 for almost nothing since the EA humble bundle is finished.

Big maps, more players, more mayhem. I hear on BF2 there are a few servers 100 slot servers running lol.

With BF3 they brought back TDM, and they introduced CQ Domination and a few other modes that offered infantry gameplay in closer quarters. So those options will be there, and you might find yourself venturing to larger maps eventually and enjoying it too, so it leaves possibility there to find more you like.

More fun than playing with a bunch of PC nerds who take the game too seriously most of the time.

You haven't played with the regulars in the TPU TeamSpeak then. Most fun ive had in a multiplayer game is playing with all of them.

Another layer is more than fine with me. Sounds like you would have to have very similar and repeating strings of crazy good luck (plus consistent great skill) to be outright banned unjustly by FairFight. It "looks" for things like 10 headshots in a row with pistols on an at least semi-continual basis (haven't read much as yet though).

I'm all for another layer, if it works. There's two things FairFight looks for:

1) The statistically impossible (Being headshot across the map with the TUGS)
2) The statistically improbable (The example you gave).

I don't know how FairFight is going to be implemented (or even if it will), but according to the Gameblock website, if a player qualifies, the penalties are increased. Starts at a chat warning, then killed by admin, then kick, etc until perma ban. Like someone said over on PBBans, if someone really is hacking, then why mess around. They need to be perma banned. A increasing penalty system does not deter hackers from ever hacking to begin with.

There are BF3 servers using it. There's a series of videos from one user on Youtube that shows how it works. The music sucks in my opinion.

It could be that DICE will just use it to get the blatant hackers.

New Battlefield Blog Post - Ask DICE: Commander Mode Revisited

[DICE] Vincent Vukovic | 09.28.13
The feedback we’ve received following our in-depth blog post on the return of Commander Mode has been tremendous, and we’re listening! The team at DICE is hard at work putting the final touches on Battlefield 4, but we managed to get some time with Valerian Noghin, Multiplayer Designer on Commander Mode.

High Value Targets
One of the primary objectives for a Commander will be to identify threats. In Battlefield 4, we are giving the Commander the ability to identify High Value Targets, turning up the intensity on the battlefield even more.

When a player has reached a kill streak of six, they will appear as a selectable unit on the Commander Screen. Once this happens, the opposing teams Commander can choose to reveal the HVT’s location on the map. Once they do that, a timer begins to count down and a message will appear on-screen letting that Commanders team know where that HVT is via the mini map.

If the HVT takes down an enemy while the timer is counting down, they will receive bonus points for each kill. If you’re good, racking up great amounts of points during a match will be easier, but don’t expect it to be easy if you’re playing against a well-coordinated team. Rewarding skilled players is really important for us, as we don’t want them to feel as if this is a punishment, but rather something that they should be proud about.

When a player eliminates a HVT they will receive a one-time bonus, and the Commander that issued the order will also receive a bonus based on the total amount of kills the HVT had during their kill streak. Taking down a HVT isn’t an easy task, especially if the opposing Commander utilizes assets such as the EMP or even supply drops to help his team out. When the countdown ends, there will be a cool down before a Commander can choose a new target, so it won’t be possible to HVT spam.

Becoming a Commander
You’ve been on the battlefield and now you’re ready to lead your team to victory. Players that have reached Rank 10, will be able to join matches as a Commander on a first-come, first-served basis. This rank requirement will also be required for Commanders playing on tablets, meaning they will need PC/console experience before leading their teams while on the move. PC players will use Battlelog to join, while console players will be able to do this through the in-game menus.

Commander Mutiny
Think you can be a better Commander? If so, start a mutiny. Squad leaders who disapprove of the Commanders performance will be able to vote for a mutiny against the Commander. When a Commander reaches the munity threshold, all players on the team will be informed and a countdown timer of 2 minutes will appear on the Commander Screen (and those of the squad leaders). The Commander will be able to directly see which leaders disapprove and will have some time to turn the tide of the battle, showing that they are worthy to be in the position. Unlike normal voting, squad leaders can at any point change their minds and show that they now approve of how the Commander plays. If a mutiny does occur, new Commanders will have a couple of minutes’ grace period when taking the seat before a mutiny can be started against them.

Until next time…
Check back here at the Battlefield blog next week for a special BF4 Beta edition of Ask DICE.

Next time we’ll be answering questions about the Battlefield 4 Beta as well as any other burning questions. What questions do you have? Let us know in the comments below.

Battlefield 4 begins its release on October 29, 2013 and will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition and get access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta on Oct 1.

HVT??

OH PUHHHHLEASE - Its no different then being 'tagged' by a drone on CoD - you show up on the map for EVERYONE so EVERYONE can see you and try to kill you.

REALLY DICE?

go make a fucking CoD already - thats what you want. what happened to the BF series being semi-realistic? Now we have killstreaks in the form of 'field upgrades' and now this HVT bullshit.

What a complete and utter waste - what happened to supply/vehicle drops - radar scanning and commander controlled artillery to support ground forces?

Realism has never been a good argument for what the game play should be like, unless you are specifically wanting to play a sim, which the BF series has never been. HVT's could be fun, or could be dumb...just have to see. I suspect that in many cases it will play more as a kill delivery system for the HVT if too many noobs go mindlessly running after the HVT instead of working on the objectives.

Sweet will fit on one of my USB 3 thumbs.

Edit: Ah crap I don't think Origin allows multiple install folders like Steam. Rather not write that to my SSD as it's temporary.

Edit2: Moved dir to the thumb drive for now. "Games you installed previously will not be moved". Gee thanks. :p

I am pulling down the beta pre-load atm. SWEET! Did BF3 Premium owners get the early beta invite? I don't recall how I got mine?

FYI: The price and pre-purchase clicker are up not on Greenmangaming, haven't been since yesterday. Only vanilla and premium on GMG, no deluxe. I jumped on it and secured my vanilla and premium pre-orders from GMG on the 27th. Thanks again GullyFoyle for the 20% off coupon.
