Hmmm seems this MIGHT only be a useful choice If someone was adamant about trying the new "multi GPU" formerly "hybrid crossfire x" with onboard 4250 IGP

More Memory doesn't make a video card more powerful, why would you want this?, if you are looking for a pure low end gaming card or even just an everyday internet machine, there are better options out there that will most likely cost less then this card and still be much more powerful.

I'm not sure, but i personally have never seen a Club3D card anywhere on Newegg.

you're still limited to how much ram the IGP has, so its still useless.

This is a good card. You guys should realize that not everyone can be high end and afford the overpriced cards such as 5850 and such.

With this video card, a user can play on ultra high settings and resolution just fine. and its cheap. it has 2GB of ram too.

i think this is the best card now and recommend it to everyone. This video card is what a mainstream gamer needs. and the majority of gamers are budget and mainstream users.

Nvidia and ATI should focus on making this kind of video cards more.

You should have realised that this is TPU, and not the best place to say 5550 is the best card. Just like you wouldn't drive your Ford Focus to a party filled with Ferraris and say that it drives as fast in the city, therefore its the best car. 2Gb of ram does not mean anything if you cannot use it (and in car analogy, a 100 gallon tank will not make your car run any faster). The day Nvidia and ATi focus on low end cards like this is the day innovation died. I appreciate your thoughts though :toast:

Fourstaff: please dont act like a typical high-end user.

5550 is a good card. its 2GB is useful, otherwise they wouldnt make it. prove it if im wrong. you are wrong until proven otherwise.

i am sure that once i buy this card, i can play any games at ultra high resolutions such as 2560*2000 very smoothly.

car is different. you cant compare a card to a car. a car doesnt have a video ram.

Even the 5850 is not memory bottlenecked with 1Gb ram, so I can't see why 2Gb of ram is useful in this card. And don't be daft, you will not be able to play any games at ultra high resolutions, the card is not powerful enough. I can play quite a lot of old games (Oblivion, Battlefield 2 etc) on high settings at 1366x768 but the 4570 will absolutely struggle to produce any significant framerates even at lowest settings if you play newer games like BFBC2 and Empire:Total War. Please don't let your idealism affect your judgement.

but 5550 is not an old card like yours. its a new card.

those games that u mentioned are unoptimized. thats why u get low fps if u play them.

i am going to order one or two 5550 tomarrow and once i get it i will benchmark and prove how fast it is to u :).

the below is the list of known unoptimized games until now:
    1. crysis
    2. shattered horizon
    3. Empire:Total War
    4. BFBC2
    5. GTA4
    6. Metro 2033
    7. Split/second

    and some others.

its sad that instead of encouraging Nvidia and ATI to produce cards like 5550, we actually complain.

Jokerr: we all know, for fact, from years of testing that 1GB of ram is all that modern games use. Eventually the limit raises up, just like it has from 32MB to 64MB to 128MB and on and on until the 1GB we have reached today... but 2GB isnt useful on ANY video card, not yet.

This card is a scam. The card cannot play modern games at high resolutions at anything above medium settings, and those settings would work just as well on a 5550 with 512MB of ram.

Mussels: Wrong. GTA4 uses MORE than 1GB of vram. Crysis uses MORE than 1GB of vram on full settings and also shattered horizon uses over 1GB of vram on full settings.

so 2GB of VRAM can be used.

The most attractive part of 5550 is the pricing. its very cheap and can be very attractive to mainstream gamers.

please show me where those games use more than 1GB of Vram, because i'd love to know how thats even remotely possible. If that were the case, no one would be able to play those games on max settings, and many of us do.

Please stop trying to justify low end video card purchases with made up logic, it wont make your card go any faster.

    Agreed.

Though i do believe there are uses for more then 1GB or video memory on a high-end card, with a lot of power should come great memory, people can easily utilized 2gigs on a much more powerful card in programs that are taxing on the GPU, and will help in games once we get to when 2GB of vram is useful.(maybe not if the standard moves up years from now, when said card is out of the loop)

My indie video editor friends use cards like these because they don't have the money/need for pro-level hardware. Yes! An actual market for these cards, but since it's so small we can continue calling them useless ;)

Jizzler: few eh? I will bet u that 99.99% of people use this kind of hardware and only a very few people use more expensive hardware such as 5850.

and i will bet u that this 5550 2gb is faster than ur old 4870 512mb card. ur card is actually useless now.

A Bunch of people use 5850's they're very awesome cards and very powerful for a great price., what do you mean it's expensive?, more expensive then what? a 5550?, if so then of course it is, it's TONS of times more powerful then that card.

A 4870 512MB is tons more powerful then a 5550 2GB(a 5770 is around the power of a 4870), video cards are more then just how much memory they have, the 4870 has better specs then a 5550 regardless of how much video memory it has, so it's gonna perform better(making a 5550 FAR more useless then a 4870). I don't see where the problem in logic is.

5550's are low end cards and should only be used for low end usage, 2gigs of memory on such a low end card is pointless and a waste of time, end of story.

how much we betting? should i PM you my paypal?

that 5550 would be slower than a 4870. the 4870 matches a 5770, pretty much perfectly. the GPU is slower here, therefore, its a slower card.

more memory doesnt make a card faster, it just removes a bottleneck if and when you do hit that memory limit...

seriously man. you're all alone here. everyone else knows very clearly that the extra video ram is useless, except you. even budget gamers dont use cards like this because that extra 1GB of video ram makes the card cost more than the faster 5770.

99.99%? Well maybe true for business people and non-gamers. But gamers atleast at the minimum use a 5670 except ofcourse laptop users who use cards lower than that and game.
The 5850 is a popular card, many gamers around the world use the 5700/5800/5900 series and of course 4series etc.

And that old 4870 512mb card will kick the 5550 2gb to the moon and back. Still one hell of a card. :respect:

agreed but why are we wasting time talking on a forum when we could just link reviews to the 5550 and the 4870s and etc etc and just show the numbers instead of wasting breath bickering at a troll.

.... disappears to gather up links to reviews

    Far Cry 2 :
    http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_hd550_ultimate/5.htm

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/his-radeon-hd-4650-512mb-isilence4-review/9

    consensus 5550 = 4650

for the price of a 1gig 5550 you can get a 4670 which shows on average 50% better performance in modern games and thats compared to a 512mb 4670

obviously a 4670 is far far slower then a 4870 but if the 4670 is faster then a 5550 that means a 4870 is also far faster /end troll spam retaliation ill let the others resume there anti trolling trolling

and with that said a 5550 with say 512mb of ram would be ideal for a HTPC for hd video decoding but other then that faster cheaper gaming alternatives exist

key example 1 gig 5550 is $60 4670 1gig can be had for $55 $5 less and 50-60% greater performance oh and it can decode hd video as well.. whats that DX11 you say? anything below a 5770 forget it and in games like metro roflol anything below a 5850 should just walk home ashamed.

ok ok now im REALLY done with my trolling

Did you even read the last few posts?. lol

Your starting to feel like a troll.:shadedshu

Also, DX11 has nothing to do with raw performance, the 4870 is still overall the better card. And even if someone was going to go into some DX11 action, they sure as hell wouldn't pick a 5550 to do it.lol(unless you just want entry level performance in DX11)

CDdude55: obviously u are the troll in here who keeps defending the older gen cards such as 4870

whatever 5550 is, it is a NEW gen card. be it slower or fast. its still a new gen card.

and i dont think its as bad as u say. just because u have the overpriced 470, doesnt mean that everyone should have the same card as yours.

a user with a card like 5550 has much more respect than a high end user like you.

dont be an arrogant high end user.

I'm not defending any card, im stating an actual fact to which if you do a little research you would see is correct. How does it being a new gen card effect anything?, just because it came out more recently doesn't mean it's better, do some actual research before you spew your absolutely wrong BS.

Also, how is it overpriced?(the 470), not only is it a newly released card, But it's a very powerful card and i see nothing wrong with the price it's currently at.(assuming your in U.S.)

I advise you to please READ the posts above FIRST, before you spew off anymore wrong BS.

lol How?, you act as though if someone has the money to drop on an awesome card they lack some sort of morals or knowledge, i don't get you.

(also, stop calling cards overpriced just because you can't afford it)
