Crimping or Soldering?

I am going to be working on a project sometime in the near future (hopefully) and it will require splicing 2 24pin connections together(nearly impossible to find a already made splitter)

So to do this i see it as i have 2 options solder or crimp. Of course no matter which path i take the wires will be covered in heat-shrink and most likely sleeved.
I also don't have any soldering or crimping equipment so that isn't something to consider.
I have googled for the answer and it seems to be very mixed so i am coming to you guys.
Give me your opinions and reasoning on which you support.

seems a bit overkill but i'm sure it would be solid for years to come.

I also was thinking i also have the option of getting some wire and empty casing along with some of the pins and make my own (seems like it would be more of a PITA then splicing)

I'd solder whenever possible, but I have been tempted by the easy way out and have crimped plenty of times with no issues. Solder sure looks cleaner.

Do it right and solder. Wires can always come out of crimps.

And no, when you do a good solder, the solder joint won't be pulled apart.

thanks for your input guys. Lets try and keep them coming as i want as many opinions as possible.
Also if anyone knows of a 24pin Y splitter that is for sale in the US could you please link me? If so i could avoid this all together

Edit, you dont need a hefty soldering iron. A simple 25W iron will melt solder across two wires just as good as a more expensive one. May I recommend:

Ok now that I read what your doing........

I'm not trying to be a prick or know it all but you're asking for trouble by crimping. I know they do it from the factory on power supplies but they get the crimps tight and accurate. Shorts are the least I would worry about when splicing two 24 pins together in to one connector.

Solder the matching wires and then you can crimp them in to the pin but even then I would solder them in. You want to make the electrical path "feel", if you will, like one continuous wire. If the current needs to "jump" from one wire to the other your inducing resistance to the wire(s) which will require more amps to be drawn. All of which heats things up. I really would not recommend crimping at all as an option for something like this.

If you can find a y-cable, yes that would be a lot easier. If not, do not crimp.

dont forget to add heatshrink before soldering...that one always gets me

Why do you need a Y cable? Do you actually want both PSUs to provide power to the motherboard, or are you just doing this so that both PSUs turn on at the same time so you can use the second one to power other things by itself?

You can use something like this if you just want the second PSU to come on at the same time as the rest of the computer.

His idea is to run 2 minimal rigs off one higher end PSU & put them all in once case. It should be an interesting project.

Heya pos, newtekie's got an idea for yah!!!

Why not just run 2 power supplies? Not going by daisy chaining them together, but if you are better at case modding than crimping and soldering that route would be an easier one to take, also less taxing on a single psu.

Altho I am all for projects, my vote goes for soldering.

solder and heatshrink where applicable, crimping is OK but I have a lot of faith in soldering, but you have to be adept at it.
