Sounds like a great back up computer, I'd keep it and start saving $600-800 for a new build completely.

I'd suggest a new 1155 or AM3 socket, Quad core if you can afford it cpu, 4GB 1600Mhz DDR3 ram, 1TB 7200rpm Sata II drive, a GTS 450 or HD 6670 gpu, and the main board is yours to choose. You will need a solid power supply, so probably starting at 500W Bronze rating and going from there.

What PSU do you have? How much do you want to spend? The upgrade is for gaming?

This IS his backup computer. The only thing I'd suggest changing about his current gaming build would be a new GPU.

If it's a poor quality PSU like Hyena, I would start there, then > GPU > HDD.
That's about it.

Perhaps he should put the 5770 he already has in his gaming rig into this backup machine. Then buy a better GPU for his gaming rig.

A new GPU with an adequate PSU.
I'd say a HD5770 and this PSu to go with it: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 430W ATX12V v2.3 ...

what do you think if I use this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028 and I change the memory for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231194 and 1 tb hard drive like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 and this video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131368 what do you guys thinks about this ?????:toast:

I wouldn't dump any money into a back up computer, just upgrade your current setup.

If anything I'd up the hdd to a 1TB drive and only use it as a file storage setup.

For HDD get this:
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cac...

You don't need a 600W to power the 5770 but as others say no reason to dump that money in a second machine. What you proposed there is closer to 400$. For that money you can switch to a Sandy Bridge CPU, mobo and memory.

but you still have to buy a GPU for it,

so why buy another 5770 for that machine when you can use what you have just get a better rig for yourself,

this is a simple process

charge them half price for YOUR 5770
then you take that money roll it into something better for you, this isnt rocket science.

@OP

IMHO everything needs replacing if you really want to "upgrade" not make it a bit faster.

5770 is more then enough gpu power for most people, and not everyone has lots of doe for the fastest and greatest hardware some people in these forums i swear have a gold spoon stuck up there butt

put your CURRENT 5770 INTO the BACKUP RIG

buy new better gpu for MAIN RIG

problem solved

5770 uses so little power he wont need to change the PSU etc its a done deal ppl are reading to much into shit that they dont need to

again whats the point the hd5770 can play most games at a decent res, he would be better off grabbing another hd5770 shortly down the road to crossfire

he need a FUCKING GPU FOR THE OLD RIG THERE ARE 2 PC's

1 needs a gpu
the other has a 5770

whats the point in buying a new 5770 at retail price to stick in the old fucking PC

when he HAS a 5770 can charge a few dollars for it, and use the money he WOULD have spent on a NEW 5770 to buy himself a FASTER GPU,

so buying a second 5770 for xfire, still means the other rig STILL DOSENT HAVE A DAMN GPU, learn to look at a persons system specs AND what they post, maybe the realization of what the OP is talking about will sink in.
Take a closer look below so you can understand why Xfire isnt probably an option why he can just reuse the 5770 to boost the older Core 2 Duos performance *since web browsers and many apps are getting gpu accelleration a 5770 fits in perfectly and its low power* this gives him the ability to stick a faster gpu in with his Unlock Phenom II quadcore oh wow see amazing logic at its finest.

i don't think he cares if hes old system has no video card or not at this point to save him money he can use the hd5770, down the road he can pick up a cheaper card for hes second system, also i agree he can sell hes current 5770 and use the cash for a better gpu
