and the reason i havent posted any benchmarks is because it is 10 oclock on a friday night and im too drunk to be messin with voltages on anything.

Yep that's the one...if you research it, Asus no longer sells new 8800GTS's, but in fact modifies them into these cards...which is comparable to a 9800GTX also (not the + version tho), just lower clocks. Great card for the price! Don't blame ya for going with it!

If you took the time to read page one, he was talking about getting that Asus 9800GT that's at the top of the list in the link he provides in the first post on this second page that we were talking about near the end of the first page. Though the topic of this thread originally started with UberNoob claiming some pretty damn amazing OC's with his current x1800XT.

Trust me man it's all there, even a quick scan would reveal that. He is OC-ing the XT until he replaces it with the Asus card (if he chooses to purchase it), until then he's going to continue to OC the XT. He was verifying that my guess of the 128 shader 9800GT that he was planning on replacing the x1800xt with. Did you even read the first page? Or just assume from post one on page 2 this thread wasn't even close to the topic on hand? It's all good either way...a few of us know what's going on and that's all that matters!

Check out his GPU-z link...if that OC is in fact true and stable...that's pretty damn good on such an old card!

Bullshit Overclock Software !

That software was 100% totaly inaccurate, after running some benchies i only see a fe wframes gained in crysis benchmarks and no way were they on par with what the software said. Gpu-z validation is not a validation at all. By trusting such software i made myself look foolish and tarnished my own credibility.

Do yourself a favor and dont put your repute at the hands of others no matte how revered they are. I now find myself questioning everything and i am glad, until now i followed the popular opinions about what is true and was was false and what settings and such were better for me.


From now on i will figure it out myself.

Remember the x1800xt can only do so much in Crysis, but I was wondering if that OC util was just editing the read speed and not actually changing the true speed of the card. Maybe try rivatuner if ati tool doesn't work for ya.

I have not been hard to anyone and if i have been taken as such, that was more or less an opology for crying wolf based upon softwarei thought was accurate and a warning to others so they dont do the same thing.

Thats because i totaly thought the clocks were legit, well i did till i seen it ramp up to 1350 core..LOL.

I decided ill take this card and throw it in my old Dell that has a 2.8 P4 and 2 gigs or ram
and sellit for 300 bucks so i can buy a new card. I personaly have never had any lock overclocking ATI cards. I plain hate ati drivers and i dont plan on buying one for a LONG time.

Sorry to all who thought i was harsh with them, thats not my intention. Im a niceguy.

I have no issues with ya man, things happen.

GPU-z is the best detector program of it's kind out there, but it's not perfect, nothing is. But that OC Util you were using screwed ya...as you said before, when ATI Tool wouldn't OC it (I think you said that), you should've known something was up. I was hoping that you were actually hitting those OC's, but on such an old card...it was hard to believe. Still a bummer!

Like I said, better luck with the 9800gt if you go for it!

yes kursah it it somewhat like you speculate. I assume that there is a register in memory
witch holds a hexidecimal value that corresponds to the 3d clock speed. This value was written with the x1800 overclocker and then the gpu-z utility read it.

But im guessing that the ati drivers bypass that in memory register and directly access the bios to load the 3d clock speeds and voltages. I could probably revert to the old Catylists
and get it to work like it is supposed too but i think if anything i would like to edit me a bios and clock it up that way.
