Well, it does come with it's own fan controller.

To everyone who loves the Xigs, I'm not saying anything negative about it. It's my second favorite cooler.

Noone can have the same favorite, the only reason I even have the Xig was due to the fact a few months ago with the 1283 was newer, Newegg had a huge sale for $26.99 + $5 S/H or so...the same price I paid for my previous AC Freezer 7 Pro which I was very content with. The differences were pretty healthy, not huge, but I did drop around 7-10C under load at 3.6, and around 5C idle with both at max fan speed. Personally the Xig and AC F7P are my favorites, with my old Zalman 7700 in distant 3rd, it was a good cooler for it's time.

Alex, PWM fans aren't a necessary requirement, it's nice to have, on the Xig I suppose it would be nice if I wanted to use it, but in reality, the Xig at 100% speed is noticably quieter than the AC F7P at 100%, both of which I ran primarily at full speed since I can deal with a little extra noise. Everyone has their own preferences, but you have quite a list, and there is going to have to be some slight negotiation and give-and-take on some of those to find a winner alex, but there are a lot of great coolers out there, and in reality I don't think you'll "lose" by going with any of them, whether brand new, PWM, copper, aluminum, painted, full of LED's or whatnot. Sure there is some difference between cooling efficiencies, but if that was your primary goal, then the list could be narrowed some-what from lookers to performers.

I think you need to decide on what you can live with and without, do some research on what's been suggested, read pro and user reviews, find comparisons, find pictures of installed coolers, see what others complain about, see what features you feel are worth paying for and such. You will find the right cooler, I personally go for best bang-for-the-buck, I don't think the Xig is ugly, but in the same perspective, it can look like whatever it needs to for the performance it gives for the low price I paid for it!

Here is a website that I all ways use when I show others CPU Coolers... The Sunbeam is now #1, but For the longest time it was the Xig... I'd say their reviews are the best! :toast:

Not to knock that site, but from what I have heard they didn't use the same fan on each cooler so those results could be different if using a similar fan on each heatsink.

Still, after a few years of seeing this site, It has all ways had the top CPU cooler as #1 and so forth... It may not use the same fan, but, the there isn't a Universal fan that goes on EVERY CPU cooler... IMO

Well frostytech shows that the zalman 9700 out performs the zerotherm.

i do still quite like the idea of the zalman despite it being rather heavy. that is if it fits, but if erocker thinks so...

what makes it hard to make decisions is different places say different things. other places asus silent knight beats 9700, then somewhere else says the zalman is just behind the xigmateks and thermalrights!

I've always seen the Zalman perform well in reviews. I had one, and I'd say it never cooled as well as a AC Freezer 7 pro. There are so many good coolers on the market that are a degree or two between them, it ends up being personal preference.

I suppose it comes back to the Xigmatek then really. it is smaller than the zerotherm and zalman and apparently cools better.

could I change the fan on it and/or set the fan up the usual way so it blows air across the heatsink. otherwise im gonna have two fan on top of each other, lol!

Okay, I have decided. I'm getting the Zerotherm Nirvana, lol. Difference between that an the xigmatek probably wont be a lot.

And i prefer the base finish and nickel/gloss/black finish of the heatsink, plus the blue led fan, lol!.

And anyway, its gonna cool better than the freezer 7 pro yeah??

Oh yea...There is also A mod, if you google it, that shows you how to change out that stock fan, and put any after market fan on it...

Lmao.. With the Cosmos, you really don't hear to bad of a diffence between those Delta's and The Kaze's.... Plus, I have one of the Sunbeam Theta fan controllers... So, only if needed to be loud is it! But I'm getting sweet temps! core is 34,34,30,30 and real temp is 28,28,25,26

I'm gonna wait till i actually upgrade my CPU, a cooler like that is gonna be overkill, and there will probably be something even better when I come to upgrade my CPu in a few months.

I was actually looking at getting some Corsair Dominator 2x2gb @ 1066 5-5-5-15. but I was just thinking, I was gonna put off getting another 3870 for anohter month or so. I want to get another HIS Iceq3 version.

now that the 4870 has come about, are they gonna discontinue production of it?? It has already disappeared from one of the sites i use.

You will see that some of the 3870's are going to be discontinued due to the bigger brother coming out... But, there will all ways be a place where you will be able to find the parts you need.
As for the cooler, its all up to you man! At lease you do know what you are wanting to get. That's the main part in computer shopping... It takes somewhere between 3-4 months before I can even buy something because I'm read so deep into it..
