So I recently purchased a power color r9 290x gpu and found out that my power supply didn't have enough amperage so I bought a xfx xxx edition 750w power supply in an attempt to stop the BSOD. However the blue-screening is still happening, I can play games on ultra while doing other things on my other screen for around 8-10 hours before it will blue-screen. I have found that it more commonly crashes on full screen hd videos so I made sure I had the latest gpu drivers and made sure that flash player is up to date. I also tried prime 95 to test the CPU and gpu and both checked out fine.
I also ran a mem test overnight and there was no errors. Also ran an Anti-virus and Spyware scan, the spyware returned a few results so i removed them. That still didn’t solve the blue screening though. So this made me wonder if it was hard drive related so i ran a defrag, disk clean-up and registry fix with ccleaner however yet again this didn’t fix it. Then i thought about drivers so i made sure my bios and video card drivers were up to date as well. I was running out of things to try so i tested again with prime95 and noticed the multiplier was dropping down to 3.3ghz then back up to 3.6ghz.
So I looked into it and apparently means that my cpu is degrading from the oc I have had for a year. I under clocked to 3.3ghz like it was jumping to and it still blue screened so i lowered it even more to 3ghz,still nothing changed. So i did even more research looked into it more and people said they lose a few ghz but not as much as mine is saying I’ve lost. I should also mention that the crash does not happen with my old card and that i used furmark overnight to test my new gpu so it definitely isn’t dead from the box. If anyone could tell me what is causing the BSOD and how i could possibly fix it, I would love you forever ^-^
P.S my specs are listed on my profile.
