Yupyup, should be better now. I'm compacting some databases

Might be redundant info with regard to above post #551.

Just had these 2 errors:

I also keep getting "insert image" pop up windows without requesting them. dunno why, or if its related to Your work on the Database.

Just noticed that the Edit and Delete options are missing from older posts I made- they used to be there before today?

Only the Report option is there now.

Edit- It looks like those options are gone on any post older than 2 days..

can confirm this just checked some of my older posts
maybe :eek:they don't trust us to edit our own previous posts :):p

any one else having problems cutting and pasting with the paste not visible until you refresh or post ?

Yep, as @Norton and @dorsetknob stated, I just checked a post I made on the 29th of January and the edit and delete is for sure gone.

Hopefully @W1zzard can get this fixed. :rockout:

The editing time limit has been adjusted to 2 days recently, any feedback on this? Examples of issues?

I would like to change the title of one of my threads and add to the original rather than starting a new thread, i can no longer do this.

Examples of issues?

For Sale forum would be one example. If someone starts a thread and a week later wishes to edit to add things, delete things, or edit the title. The person would have to start a complete new thread?

This is a very good example.

Additionally, for those that do giveaways, it can pose a problem with updating their OPs as the giveaway progresses. I tend to end up editing all the while

Advised rule Ect
As a courtesy to others, if you have sold your items, or the items are no longer available, please post so in your thread so needless inquiries are not made.
Once a sale is final, edit the first post saying the item is sold.

You Wanted this preferably in the 1st post
not possible now if the Seller does advise that item is sold or not available and he now has to post a new post
People then have to scroll the entire thread to see if item is still available sold or withdrawn or price varied ( as it often happens)

5 cent opinion revised and reduced to 2 cents :)

Oh yea, another great example!!!

And I don't understand the premise behind changing that @W1zzard ? Was there issues with people and editing and/or deleting their own posts?

It was previously unlimited as far as I could see and I prefer it that way. It's happened a few times that I've needed to correct things in a post even months later if I come across it and I wouldn't like to be restricted on this.

Yep, another perfect example is the "club forums."

I, for one example, have the Nostalgic Hardware Club thread going here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/tpus-nostalgic-hardware-club.108251/

Now with this new "rule" there is no way that I can edit my original post to add names, old driver links, more pictures, etc... to that thread.

I just don't see the benefit to this at all and don't understand what brought up this decision.

I might be mistaken but didnt the "ignore" button used to be alongside the "report" button

and it seems i can report my own posts...why would i do that?

Came in to stick this in here, and Stinger beat me to it :)

I agree that there are several places that benefit from not limiting the Editing abilities. Echoing the others, was there a problem?

BST forum used to be unlimited. I cannot verify as every post there can be edited by me. Has anyone verified that edit-ability is indeed gone, as I cannot do so.
Please provide an image of what you see.

Also there is a good reason behind all of this. This is to help stop members from going back and essentially destroying threads removing posts, breaking the thread in some instances, or causing confusion from doing so.

@CAPSLOCKSTUCK being able to report your own posts is good for the BST when you want shop closed or a title edit. FYI, we did see your test.

Editing ones own posts should be allowed. This new measure appears to be draconian.

Perhaps not deleting after 2 days is ok but not being able to edit is a hardship.

If W1zzard did not have a good reason to do so, he simply would not take the time to make adjustments. Just sayin'.

To your edit: With the edit feature, you could simply write edited out, snip, ..., and still remove what others have quoted after said post. Edit and deletion can have the same effect.

i agree with this.
The post shows when it was edited, perhaps a link to the pre-edit could be available. On request to a mod or otherwise.

If the thread tools are available one can merely edit the title to say "thread closed" No need for a Mod to spend time doing it.
