Radeon HD 6800 coming sooner than you think?

Ive read somewhere that since Nvidia isnt really competing with the HD5870 ( yes the GTX480 is a lil faster but not enough ) they will focus on the H6xxx series and we wont see the HD5890 card since they dont really need it.

Trust it or not ... this make sense.

Well if they dont release the HD5890 anytime soon, I was also considering those new OCed HD5970 4gb version, I might pick one up depending on the cost!

I put some weed killer on that wild hair and decided to just pick up a single HD 5870 to couple with the other one I own, so I'm going to end up running 2 card Crossfire X. That will be plenty for me.

After owning 2x 4850 crossfire, gtx295 and 4890 crossfire..

I can honestly say that my 'single' 4890 hit my sweet spot like no other. Its anticipated performance at 1ghz really made overclocking %100 fun and addictive. It runs games the way I'd expect it to run, other than that it has been hassle free with gaming including with the installation of drivers (doesn't even need a restart).

SO I'm hoping that they do release a 5890 and I hope it comes into the same scale of awesomeness as the 4890 did at launch.

With single-card eyefinity, I'd say it's an even more feature-rich card than Fermi, even more if Fermi's computing abilities are castrated in the consumer version.

I say clock the Cypress to +1GHz and 2GB GDDR5 and we'll have a new single-GPU king.

those clocks most people can reach it with an normal overclock, others can go higher
so i think you answer yourself, same bandwidth- same ROP's-55 nm and same texture units, so what's improve = more clocks only

The HD 4890 sucks more power but ran cooler? Maybe because fan was louder than HD 4870

512-bit maybe in next gen for ATI but it costs a lot to do it and takes up a lot of die splace.

I think that memory technology is moving so fast right now, that we don't need a bus increase any time soon - there's already 6-7gb/s gddr5 memory.Considering that the 5870 is runing at 4,8 that's a 46% increase right there.

Could not agree more, in Call of Duty 4 my old 4890 was so smooth in game, wish I never sold the damn thing

i think most gamer would care more on minimal frame rate than max. If max framrate is above 120 but your min is like 10, you have a big problem !

The HD 4870 was ATI's high end card last year. It should be faster than the low end HD 5770. Two 4870's in crossfire still give quite the punch in performance

I don't think so, the 6K series cards are not based on another/new architecture, just some minor tweaks here and there to optimize performance.

It came from the holy grail of Kantastic. No, I apologize. I should've clarified, I believe that it won't be based on a completely new architecture. I recall reading an article where AMD's CEO stated that it would be a refresh of their current line. I personally want to believe that the 6K series would give as radical of an improvement as the 5K series did compared to the 4K but I don't see how that's possible. If ATI had something this good in the makings they didn't need to sell themselves to AMD would they?

Oh wow 2006? I had no idea, I thought it was a recent thing but I guess I'm completely out of tune with time. I didn't really read the thread (if at all), I just saw the title & the last post that was made and inferred that people were expecting a whole new generation of cards coming out in like 3 months that'll walk all over the 5K series/Fermi.

I should start citing my sources so I know when I'm talking nonsense if I can't back it up,
