I sent XFX my GeForce 9800 GT, which had three caps blow with 2 months left in the warranty. In return, they sent me the 5670. Everything I've seen shows the 5670 to perform at considerably lower levels than the 9800GT was able to crank out. How pissed should I be, and is there any chance XFX will care?

Rant at them and ask for a 5770. Cite benchmarks and say you don't like amd :p

You definitely got a slower card in return, but I wouldnt be that upset, the performance difference isnt much. The 5670 is almost as fast as the 9600 GT. The 9800 GT is a renamed 8800 GT, the 8800 GT was only slightly faster than the 9600 GT. So yes you lost performance but probably about less than 20% (estimate) at most. You can always delcine the RMA's offer of a different card?

I just looked at AT's review and they seems to be pretty much on the same level. Did I miss something?

For what its worth, you should've marked the SLI box when you sent the card in to make sure they sent you a Nvidia card back

hmm maybe it have to do with XFX abandoning nvdia, and after seeing the benchmark on TPU its look like it have same performance

You sent in an Nvidia card and got an AMD/ATI card in return. Has anyone really been far even as decided to send ATI card?

The warranty only states they'll send you a comparable card if yours is no longer available (and being they jumped the Nvidia ship it isn't). An HD 5670 is comparable to the 9800 GT - maybe 10% slower. It is better in that it uses a lot less power and is cooler running. You could demand something like an HD 5750. I don't think that'd be unreasonable.

I'd be irritated, but I have an irrational hatred for ATI. I'd demand another 9800GT/GTX or a GTS250 back from them. I run Linux, where ATI isn't supported as well, and I fold, which doesn't work nearly as well w/ ATI

Should have gotten a 5750 IMO.

I would call them back and see what you can talk them into doing, exactly like said above, tell them you used the 9800GT for CUDA applications or something see if they will work something else out with ya...

At least a 5750 would be a slight upgrade but the 5670 that's a slight downgrade, I can understand them not being able to replace it with another Nvidia card however... I just recently sent back an 8600GT, 2x 8500GT's and a 8400GS, didn't think about that before I RMA'd the cards, wonder what I'll get back.

well tpu reviews show it as being more than 10% slower than the GT. I think you deserve a faster card like the 5750 :p

you should have gotten a 5750... but ask for a 5770 1gb nonetheless, saying you had another 9800gt in SLI which is now worthless and just argue politely... works OK with XFX

prblem is XFX got dumped by nVidia or dumped nVidia themselvs so they may not have many cards from the green team in stock for RMA's, but they still should have given you are card on par or better really

Exactly what I was thinking. When I sent in my 275 for RMA I made sure to tell them it was for a Folding@Home rig and that I have used SLI in the past and plan on it in the future. They sent me a Nvidia card back. I can't imagine they have a ton left so those who don't make it clear they need Nvidia hardware probably get AMD gear instead.

don't you know xfx hasn't made any nV card for long time ago and probably there ain't any of 9800gt/9800gtx/gts250 left for RMA. so you should have doing some research before you sent the card back and since your warranty only had 2 months left you should be grateful they sent new card instead try to fix it or just return it back to you because of expiration day is near.

go buy a new 9800gt/gts250 or equivalent nv card instead because you won't find better answer from a company that no long making nvidia card.

should be plenty of g92 cores in stock, this isn't BFG where they went under sold the warehouses, etc. This seems to be an error to me, that or you happened upon a reallyu stupid worker at xfx who handled your rma.

call them, state that this does not match AT ALL and remind them of the warranty terms.

Only about 1:10 games can the 5670 keep up to the 9800 GT and it never really beats it.

Sapphire asked me if the replacement card they suggested would be acceptable before they sent it--did XFX do the same to you? If not, I'd be very pissed.

Yeah, nobody asked me whether or not I'd mind getting an ATI back instead of a nVidia. I don't have a personal preference for one over the other, it's just the performance drop I have an issue with. Right now XFX is trying to convince me the new Catalyst 10.9 drivers put the two cards on equal ground, but I'm still definitely getting slower gaming results than I had. They've yet to respond to my last volley back to their side of their side of the court.

Another annoyance is that I paid $25 to send the faulty 9800 back for RMA and will have to pay the same to return this one, if they finally agree to do anything about it.

ASK them to pay for the shipping, as it was thier error, not yours, that had them send the wrong card.

That is of course assuming that they didn't let you know they were replacing the card with a differnt model than you sent in...just simply cry foul of FAH performance, and you got them in a tight spot...

Fact is , it's so funny , XFX stopped making nvidia card , stopped being a nvidia partner at all :)

So ... little chance you'll get the correct card back , you might just ask for HD 5850 , someway to repay you.

Also write them directly , don't waste your time with resellers and retailers or others.

did it to me too, 2 months ago I had a 9800GTX+ black edition die and they sent me a card back without asking or anything, get the box expecting the same card and nope its a HD4850 stock, not a overclocked one or anything, I tell them oh I don't want this, then they said we don't carry any card GTS250 level performance or higher so after haggling I got them to give me a 5770.

i guess they don't carry 9800GT's now though. . . . . . that sucks, hope you get this sorted out.
