sounds good to me. maby have a mod contact page with links to profiles and such.. im not sure about the crackdown on the forums but having mods involved when it starts would be very good...and its something i never thought to do.

Hmm yes, I like this. But I'm afraid it's not that easy lol... This will be discussed and hopefully a "cure" will come about. Until then, just report anything that is out of place by members to mods.

Mods that frequent the forum the most are as follows:

There are a few others, but they are either in school or busy with jobs.

Yes sir, This f***in forum is going downhill in many ways (I still love going to it). Not many people are posting things that actually matter. I have tooled on most this forum becuase of the smoking threads, and people tooling on other people for not smoking, or against mary J, who gives two shits? Listen to the name, techpowerup, Who cares if it's nonsense forum, you don't talk about shit like that, There are kids here, grownups, and spectators..And Alot of my xfire and AIM friends quit this forum for another since it's just getting ridicolous. Sorry for tooling on it..But techpowerup does need a moderator who can help alot and rules should be way stricter. I use to report about 3 posts a day, and maybe a topic or two.

I'm frequent in the forum, but not a mod though.

I really have to say, this is one of the best forums I have beend in; really nice mods and nice members, immediate and helpful responses to questions I have, great reviews, not just a forum, and easy to navigate. Great Job!

My thoughts...

First of all, members need to chill out! Sometimes its threads like these that cause the issues.

Second, we need a few rules. I myself like the basically no rule policy but our forums is growing, it worked when we were smaller but we are getting big and its starting to cause some issues. I suggest the following:

- No flaming or flamebaiting
- No swearing/cursing at other members
- No namecalling
- No spam

Simple, and not to much to ask for from members.

I also think we need more moderators. I'm up for it if you need.

Members also need to work together. If you see something that shouldnt be, PM or send an instant message to a moderator.

POGE, who were you reffereing to when you said "members need to chill out!"? Not that I'm trying to start something with you, I just couldn't get it the way you meant it...

And yeah, you're right, we need to chill out and help each other out. And if there's anything wrong, PM a mod.

There are some members here that have been causing problems recently, two of which have been given vacations. When I say chill out, I mean grow up, stop insulting each other and work together instead of against each other.

But seriously, being serious; I love a good argument, it's like a sport to me, but I try really, really hard not to flame. I don't think this forum is getting all that bad, and I don't like the idea of dumbing it down with filters and similar BS employed by sites who don't care about their users so much... A new mod may help, who knows, but there are always going to be the less friendly types around - and sometimes those people are wrong too...

Anyway, I mod over on a different site, and compared to some (not my own, DNA is ok) this site is a paradise...

No one even reads rules... we've discussed it before about posting rules and the only way to get them into people's heads is to be pushy and such. Reason we didn't do that, is because we want the forums to have a relaxed enviroment.

Dealing with things case to case is a much more relaxed way... mods just need more help from members and/or more people to watch parts of the forums. Anyways, I don't want to start repeating myself. I already stated my opinion, and I will talk to W1zzard and the other mods about it.

I check the forums as much as possible, and so do the other mods, but we can't find everything ourselves without some assistance from our members. Doesn't matter if we have 5 or 10 moderators - if there's no help from the general community, we can't get everything done.


One more mod will not solve this issue... Perhaps a bunch more that are specific to a forum, not the entire forum will help. If we just get a bunch of more of global mods, they will lose track. All of our mods are super moderators, except for a few, and those few don't frequent the forums much. What we need is to have a few main super mods, and a bunch of forum specific mods. This way, the forum specific mods can take care of their section, and not worry about other sections, because they are covered by other mods. When there is a problem that the mod can't resolve, that's when the supermods step in. That is the main reason for having forum specific mods and super or entire forum moderators.

But the main thing will be for the members helping the mods by PM's or emailing them. What I’m suggesting is, A) there be a list of all current moderators so people know who we are. B) Rules be set so users know to report to the listed moderators. C) The moderator system be revised… less super mods (keep current ones) and more forum specific mods.

I do believe that Dan has hit it with his Forum Specific/Supermod idea. Less day-to-day work for mods[only having to oversee X# of posts per session] allowing for more time for them to spend for their own intrests instead of being the 'forum police'... As for the Who/where & how I believe that is a ? for W1 & the current mods.

If I'm not mistaken, all of those were written in the EULA we all agreed to when we registered for TechPowerUp! . We could also use a warning system, in my opinion. I suck at describing things, so I'll just give you an example. Lets say I go around cussing like a drunken sailor, and a mod catches me and gets angry at me. Instead of giving me a week long tempban, they could put something like this in my sig...

We should not outright ban swear words, just dissalow personal attacks (which would usually include directed swear word insults). Take it on a case-by-case basis, as we have discussed in the staff lounge.

I like some of the ideas here. not only for new modderation but im really just glad that mods are taking notice to this thread and realizing that their is a problem w1zz knows now and that i am pleased about its like the store manager when you have a problem with the floor manager how are you going to complain bring it to HER she has to see both sides its her job i mean. their was one person forgot his name that brought up a valid argument to my mind why dont other mods back DAn well you see thats the problem you cant pick sides their job is to understand what happened and make it better not pick out a freind in need and make sure the other is FIRMLY told to stop. that is not the right way out. thats why i like the new mod idea it will give us more mods to patroll the forums. that imo isnt making it a "tighter" atmosphere it doesnt make it so ppl are scared because if their is a problem

1. pm the user(s) in question and
2. edit if necassary

i also however bealive that most would like tehir freedom to cuss and such however i agree that calling someone a faggot is most deffinately not cool however that is an example of something id pm the user for and tell him to change it and to please not do it again not comlying would lead to further disapline such as several warnings and modding by the mod to his thread then a temp ban followed by a perma ban if continued im not really one for public humiliation such as should so and so get banned and have a poll nor am i one to tell someone to chill out b4 their banned in a thread because that leads to ppl posting examples like well look HERE the mod said this and i think yuor doing it now so stop and that leads to another flame war cant have that.
