How sad is it that you made a thread about a video game, in which we later find out that you actually play; where-upon you look to get some sort of amnesty for the fact that you enjoy it.
That right there sums up why people dislike World of Warcraft, and the types of persons who play it : Self esteem(or lack there of).
And I've long said that Wow, by modern MMO standards, is fine, it's not crap, nor is it great.
Putting all the usless comments aside, it's real bane to the MMO world, is it's concepts. It's wattered down, has a nanny-state, is easy-mode, and filled with glittery flash and dash with happy go lucky approach.
Most of it's RPG concepts are terrible, but because of it's popularity/success, those same concepts have trickled down into later generation MMOs, ruining them as well.
It's a haven for online socialites that sucks in all the social rejects and low self-esteem degenerates. It has more activity than SIMS, which is OBVIOUSLY ABOUT socialites.
Any of the MMOs can get you addicted and waste your time, WoW just happens to be an even bigger time waster.
LotRO is just a bit over 2 years old now. But $15 a month isn't a very steep fee, as it's a general MMO cost. The one thing that really gets me is that they still charge for expansions. I just don't get that. Money extra in the pocket, but sitll, it will pull in more subs, so just kind of lame.
Yes, but we all paid for Warhead, and that was (whether they admit it or not) like an expansion. DLC for Fallout is like an expansion, and we pay for that in some way or another. It's not unreasonable, espeically when you consider that after a MMO launches, 60+% of the developers are pulled off the project. They only leave enough for maintenance, patches, and further content updates(of which they might bring some people BACK in). An expansion is probably done with the lower employee count, meaning extra work all around.
Should get over the subscription fee as well. The common 'fifteen bucks' per month, is mainly for maintenance costs. I don't see the problem. I find most people who complain about it, are either fourteen year olds who don't work, and have to ask mom for everything, one of which being her credit card, which she refuses to give, and/or they're the kind of people that get EVERYTHING free, meaning warez, meaning they probably got the game itself free as well; but because of the subscription fee, they can't play it. Oh darn, shame you wasted your bandwidth allocation for the month!
And please don't tell me it's a 'matter of principle.' I struggle to find even one person out of every hundred, who even exhibits ethics and principles on the internet, let alone in relation to money and a video game.
