Oops lol sub total is 788$ before shipping

Get which ever CPU cooler you find necessary, I like the Xigmatek S1284EE the most. It's seriously the best cooler on the market for AMD systems.

Okay, I went with your setup - but what should I get for HDD? I don't download alot, what's the best (yet a little big) HDD I could get?

I have a 250gb drive, don't need much more than that. I have 6 games installed and a ton of other crap(like 10gb of music) and I still have 110gb left. 500gb is overkill for a gamer, but that 7200.12 drive is the fastest currently.

And make sure you add a OS too if you don't "have" one.

I will get a 2GB Flash Drive in order to boot from USB, and I DEFINITELY won't pirate, no way - uh uh.

I wish my first rig was awesome.. Had to settle for a E2180(which I regretted so much, was a lot slower than my old 4200+ HP) and a 3850, which was awesome at the time.

yep, you build your own rig, you appreciate it a lot more than buying a pre-built one, plus you'll know all the hardware in it and since your going to come back here so we can help u overclock ;) you'll learn a good bit more about how much upgradability there is for whichever build you pick. Yep my first build was a Pentium D 820, 1GB DDR2 533, ATI 1650PRO. It wasn't bad, but not great either.

I would get a 4870 just so you have the option to go crossfire. Other than that, solid!

Ditto about the 4870. 4870 is about the same performance as a GTX 260.

I'd stick with XP, but that's my preference. Since you already have an OS, why get another? I'd only get Vista if I didn't have a copy of XP.

Honestly, I'm not much of a Foxconn person. There are some DFI 790FX boards that I'd personally be more comfortable with. And there's always 790GX boards. Gigabyte's looks decent enough.

No SLI on 790FX chipset

Not one of those systems recognises a balance between value and power without compromise. This does.

Case: Logisys Area 51 You don't need a expensive case, you need A case thats solidly built with a window and made to take 120mm fans. $37

Optical Drive: Asus 22x DVD Burner - SATA $21

HDD: WD Black 500GB SATA2 $70

CPU: Q8300 $190

Mobo: P5Q Pro $120

RAM: G-Skill 2x2GB PC8500 $60

Graphics: 512MB HD4850 with Zalman VF1000 $130

PSU: XION PowerReal 800w, SLi & CF compliant, up to 85% efficient $90

Total: $718 (include rebates in that, sub $680 range)

Under budget, over powered, and power efficient :toast:

um i sorta understand what your saying, only your missing an aftermarket cooler, and the fans to add to the case to provide good air-flow, and naturally all the systems that are here are more future proof and will provide better FPS when he upgrades to a 22", he said he plays a lot of FPS and that's were frames per second are very important(u kno this but i still feel the need to say it :p). He said he wanted ~900 dollars into this and equal performance or better than that of the pre-built system. your build is fine but does not do what he asked. and maxing out games at 1680x1050 when he gets his new monitor will be smoother with an HD 4870 or GTX 260 than the HD 4850. Though i do agree your build is much more value/dollar

I don't build a system with leaving it stock in mind. That system OCd will have immense power, and with the exception of the graphics card, last most people a good long time. I didn't bother including fans cos theres no point, we all know how cheap 120mm fans are. Aftermarket cooler is a moot point IMO, people will buy what they prefer.

Lack some cache? It's got half of what the Q6600 has, which gets beat by a Phenom II easily. And it costs 50$ more than a 720BE, whats the pont :shadedshu

well his Phenom II is only 3cores compared to 4 in the q8200, and the q8200 seems to be on par with a q6600, would you call a q6600 a shitty chip? i realize it's old but it is only 6% slower clock for clock than a q9XX0 c2q chip. plus i have one so don't be dissin the q6600 :toast: Though the Phenom II 940 outperforms my q6600 so it would outperform the q8200. Honestly were his budget not 900 i'd be all for your build Ketxxx but it is 900 and he wants a system with the greatest longevity, hence spend all 900 buckaroo's and get the best performance you can for the price
