the number of pipelines = rasterizers (not shaders) is read directly from the gpu. you can easily verify pipeline changes by running the 3dmark fillrate test

Which 3dmark version? On 05 it doesn't give me a score when i select fill rate single texture only...

I remember before flashing a modded bios to my x1800gto, I was getting arround 4500 in ati tray tool's bench program (latest version.) After the flash, my score went to 5100, about 200 points above what was recorded for x1800xl's... Is this a clear indication that all 16 pipes are functioning properly?

I just noticed that the x1900GT has the same number of ram chips as the x1900XT. Are these the same chips? If so, would it be possible to change the x1900GT to 512MB?

Dude that was the newbiest question I've ever heard... No, theres no way of somehow gaining an extra 256mb. It has the same number of chips because its the same circuitboard. They just put in smaller chips... For instance, 64mb chips on one, 32mb chips on the other...

That's why I asked whether they're the same chips. If the chips are physically present, but just disabled via firmware, then it's simple to get an extra 256mb. And before you go off about how newbie this is, realize this whole thread is dedicated to figuring out how to do the same thing with shader pipelines.

shader pipelines are different... Let me explain: The graphics core chips are always based on that particular company's chip. They use the same chip for different models.. For instance, the r420 goes with x800xl all the way to x800xtpe. The memory, however, is usualy bought from a different company. These are then put in way after the gpu was placed on the pcb.

If any card manufacturer released a 256mb card that used 512 chips, they would be flushing money down the drain.

So to recap: The core is clocked differently and regulated differently for different levels of that particular chip (xl, xt, gto) while the memory is bought afterward and placed on the pcb. This is why it is a newbie question.

Which program are you guys using to dump your X1900GT BIOSes? Ive tried ATIWinflash 1.05 (causes lockup and reset) flashrom 2.4 (says no ATI vid card found) and ATIFlash 3.09 (same result as flashrom).

ATIWinflash 1.08 worked fine here .

Hey guys any update on the 0XAD4E ???? Is it still pending ? Does anyone know ?

dolf, yes it would be a waste of time on a hardlocked PCB, but then how will you know unless you try? ;) The beta cores were unlocked, but then they were coded with a different bios.

Heh, the mem question was not totally unreasonable. There was a time when cache was locked... Remember Thorton? ...but mem chips can't be divided.

To dump? Use Winflash. To load use Atiflash 3.14. It's under the downloads.

sry...

Hey, a friend of mine has an X1900GT that he got from best buy the first week it came out. He sent me his bios and I modded it and it works! He's working with all 16 pipes now, the lucky bastard... Were gonna put a VF1-Plus vga cooler on it and case fan on the vregulators just like I did on my x1800gto and overclock the shit out of this thing... I'll report findings. I may even get him to try and sell it afterward and maybe make 100 bucks off it..?/...

ATI may have yet another trick up its sleeve to take on NVIDIA's GeForce 7900 GT. French site PC INpact says it heard straight from ATI (translate here) that the upcoming Catalyst 6.6 release will allow Radeon X1900 GT graphics cards to work in CrossFire mode without a dongle or a "master card." This change could make the X1900 GT much more attractive choice for dual-GPU systems. ATI's Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition master card is currently priced at a whopping $499.99 in our price search engine, while the X1900 GT can be had for just $269.99. If PC INpact's report holds up, users will be able to build a Radeon X1900 GT CrossFire setup for $540 instead of $770 once the new Catalyst drivers roll out.

At that price, a couple of Radeon X1900 GTs may turn out to be a pretty good alternative to a pair of GeForce 7900 GTs running in SLI mode. However, NVIDIA now has a new contender in the $500-600 segment: the GeForce 7950 GX2 "SLI on a stick," which doesn't require a motherboard with dual PCI Express graphics slots.

has anyone tried crossfire on 2 x1900 gt?

X1900GT and down mastercardless Xfire should work on ATIs RD580 chipset with Cat 6.6. It doesnt work on the intel 975x chipset (although the chipset supports xfire), I knwo cos I tried that myself.

I just popped in my brand new HIS X1900GT (IceQ3 Turbo Edition) with the big mofo heatsink.

It is a R580XL core according to RaBiT, and ATi Tool's GB_PIPE_SELECT reads 0x12BB4, which I understand is pending on the first page. I guess it's not unlockable then, meh.. :banghead:

I'm sure it'll be a hell of a clocker with this heatsink tho. :D

Has anyone checked for any hard modifications on the card itself? Maybe lasercuts?
