MaxLinear's Puma 8 DOCSIS 4.0 ESD/FDD Achieves Greater than 10Gbps Throughput

MaxLinear, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXL) today announced that Puma 8, its ESD/FDD DOCSIS 4.0 cable modem and gateway platform, delivers greater than 10 Gbps data throughput speeds as an Ultra DOCSIS 3.1 solution. With speeds close to PON fiber, Multi Service Operators (MSOs) now have a DOCSIS upgrade solution that requires minimal capital expenditure to achieve 10 Gbps service over cable versus the cost of a full-scale DOCSIS 4.0 infrastructure overhaul. For service providers who want to upgrade to DOCSIS 4.0 immediately, Puma 8 can be coupled with MaxLinear's single-chip, low-power DOCSIS 4.0 Ultra High Split (UHS) Upstream Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) that together can achieve upstream speeds of up to 7 Gbps based on 6x OFDMA channels in the 108 MHz to 684 MHz band and 1x OFDMA channel on the legacy 5 MHz to 85 MHz band.

MaxLinear Announces Availability of Puma 8, its DOCSIS 4.0 Cable Modem and Gateway Platform

MaxLinear, Inc., a leader in broadband access solutions, today announced the availability of its DOCSIS 4.0 SoC cable modem and gateway platform, Puma 8. Puma 8 builds on the success of its DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 predecessors (Puma 6 and 7) and includes all critical elements of a DOCSIS platform, including a low-power, ultra-high split upstream PGA. The platform is compliant to the DOCSIS 4.0 frequency division duplex (FDD) specification and enables immediate large-scale deployments as a DOCSIS 3.1 device with gradual feature expansion options without the need for costly CPE replacements. Complete modem, Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (EMTA), and gateway platforms will be available from MaxLinear's early access OEM partners in 2024.

Comcast to Deliver Multi-Gig Symmetrical Speeds to Customers Over Existing Connections in World-First DOCSIS 4.0 Deployment

Comcast announced that next week it will begin to introduce the first residential customers in the world to next-generation Internet powered by DOCSIS 4.0 technology. The latest version of DOCSIS technology is a giant leap forward in Internet connectivity that can deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds to customers over the connections that already exist in tens of millions of homes in Comcast markets across the country.

As a part of the launch, Comcast will introduce a new portfolio of symmetrical products for residential customers. Comcast will begin rolling out DOCSIS 4.0 to select neighborhoods in Colorado Springs, CO, and will launch new markets throughout the country over the next few years. Select areas of Atlanta, GA and Philadelphia, PA are expected to begin rolling out before the end of this year.
