Introduction

I would like to thank Corsair for supplying the review sample.

Corsair is a well known brand of performance memory in the enthusiast market. To diversify their portfolio the company added some high quality power supplies some time ago. Their Obsidian series of cases is also a very well received. Corsair started their secure flash drive line-up with the Padlock, which did work in theory, but as multiple websites pointed out, the security was easily circumvented with the use of a small resistor. Corsair has completely redesigned the Padlock 2 with real 256-bit AES encryption, which cannot be simply worked around anymore.

From the manufacturer:
  • Secure: Hardware 256-bit encryption secures your data
  • Protection: Your own 4-10 digit PIN protects and locks access to the Flash Padlock 2
  • Capacity: Large 8GB storage gives you ample room to store all your sensitive documents, or up to 2,480 images, or up to 2,000 songs
  • Compatible: No software to install — Works on Windows, Mac or Linux based computers — Plug & Play compatible with virtually any USB port
  • Hacking Detection: Multiple failed entries locks device for 2 minutes to prevent repeated attempts to access data
  • Drive Recovery: If you lose your PIN, you can reset the Flash Padlock to its factory default state, securely erasing all data from the drive
  • Confidence: Protected by a limited 10 year warranted and backed by Corsair’s renowned customer service and support

Packaging

Corsair packs the Padlock 2 in a clear plastic package which has been welded shut. This means that you need scissors to gain access to the precious drive inside. It is clearly visible in the front, while the rear of the package simply has a paragraph to sell the Padlock 2.

Contents

An USB extension cable is part of the package with the Padlock 2. Corsair has opted for a sleek silver lining on the cord along with black connectors. A blue lanyard to hang it around your neck completes the accessory bundle.
