CrucialWhat is Ballistix Tracer memory?

Ballistix Tracer memory is specifically built for performance enthusiasts and case modders who want to push the performance envelope while adding flash appeal to their boxes. The Ballistix line of high-performance memory modules features advanced speed grades, low latencies, and integrated aluminum heat spreaders. Ballistix Tracer memory features a black PCB, black integrated heat spreaders, and two rows of eight "chasing" red and green LEDs atop the module, circulating at varying speeds proportional to usage. A custom-designed circuit relays bus activity to the LEDs, allowing them to accurately reflect usage of each memory module. In addition, eight blue ground effects LEDs emit a constant glow near the pins.

Packaging

It seems that Crucial now uses a slimmer box that would be able to fit through the average letterbox. The larger one is from the Ballistix 5300 review for comparison. The sticks are separated by a piece of card, and they are individually packed in anti-static bags. Although this packaging is very simple, it is very cheap, eco-friendly, and keeps your new memory safe!

A closer look

The Ballistix Tracer DIMMs come fitted with sleek black heatspreaders, as opposed to the standard yellow spreaders used on the Ballistix range. The edges of the heatspreaders are ground back to the aluminum, which really catches the light, and made taking the pictures a nightmare!

From the top, you can see the row of activity LEDs, and at the bottom of the dimms, there are 4 blue LEDs on each side, which gives a very cool backlighting effect.

Crucial didn't print the specs (capacity, frequency, timings, voltage etc) on the modules. The information on the sticker is for picking purposes, and the orange contrasts nicely with the black heatspreader.

The static-proof bags list the information I was looking for though!

Here are the complete specs from Everest:

According to the EPP profiles, this RAM is capable of 1 GHz with only 2.2V. It will be interesting to see if this is possible.
