We would like to thank Enermax for supplying the review sample.

Enermax recently rolled out a new series, the Revolution X't. Belonging to their "Ahead of the Game" range of products, it mostly addresses gaming stations with strong VGAs and processors. According to them, "Ahead of the Game" covers different PC areas, and the models of their new series even allow for gameplay at the highest level since a power supply is decisive in how stable a PC runs. Well, there is no arguing that, but we should remind you that a PSU won't increase your gaming score, though a stable system is indeed crucial for every gamer out there.

The new Revolution X't series consists of four models with capacities of 430 W, 530 W, 630 W, and 730 W. Today, we will take a thorough look at the second-strongest model of the series—its model number is ERX630AWT. This unit, like the others, is 80 Plus Gold certified, has a semi-modular cabling design, features a single +12V rail, and uses a 139 mm fan with the patented Twister Bearing technology which ensures efficient and silent cooling along with longevity. The ERX630AWT is equipped with four PCIe connectors, so it can support up to two VGAs with double PCIe sockets, each, and its DC-DC converters for the generation of the minor rails (5V and 3.3V) ensure Haswell compatibility. Another interesting characteristic of this unit is the HeatGuard feature. It keeps the PSU up and running for 30-60 seconds after shutdown, which helps in dissipating residual system heat, a measure to increase the PSU’s lifetime. The unit's small dimensions will ensure it is easy to install while making it compatible with even very small cases that have undersized PSU compartments.

Efficiency is Gold and the unit features a semi-modular design. We would obviously prefer a fully modular design, but it would increase its price significantly. Since the unit is compliant with the latest ATX specification (currently v. 2.4), it is Haswell ready, which is indicative of the minor rails being generated by an independent regulation scheme consisting of, in this case, two DC-DC converters.

There are only four available protection features which, however, are enough for the needs of this PSU, and Enermax states that the fan has a diameter of 139 mm instead of 140 mm since the 140 mm variant is patented by another company—shrink the fan by 01. cm and get away without paying patent fees! Although it is often included in Gold units, the ERX630AWT doesn't feature a semi-passive operation we aren't huge fans of. Finally, its small length greatly reduces its footprint making its installation an easier process.

The single +12V rail can deliver up to 60 A, so it is powerful enough to support two mid-level VGAs while the minor rails have enough juice for every contemporary system that needs a mid-wattage PSU, and the 5VSB rail has enough capacity to easily cope with the task.

Cables & Connectors, Power Distribution

Native Cables

6+2 pin PCIe (520mm+150mm)2
Modular Cables

4 pin Molex (500mm+150mm+150mm+150mm) / FDD(+150mm)4 / 1
The PSU has an adequate number of connectors for its capacity. Also, cable length is sufficient considering a unit of its wattage will most likely not be installed into an enormous case. The distance among connectors is in all cases 15 cm, which is good. Some of you will obviously complain and ask for SATA connectors that are closer to one another, but we personally prefer more instead of less space between these. Every connectors uses the standard 18AWG gauges recommended by the ATX spec.

Since this PSU features a single +12V rail, we do not have anything to comment on about its power distribution.

Packaging

The box doesn't feature any fancy graphics, but it follows a rather serious design, which is fine with us since we care about what it hides inside instead. The front has the series description in large, yellow font, while the capacity and 80 Plus Gold badge are at the bottom-right corner of the front.

This side has a brief features description in multiple languages.

Most interesting here are a series of badges depicting the ERX630AWT's Gold efficiency, the HeatGuard feature, its flat modular cables, Haswell compatibility, and the twister-bearing fan.

The rear of the box includes interesting information about the connectors available to all members of the line, their power specifications, and brief descriptions of the HeatGuard feature and the ErP Lot 6 2013 directive. Two schemes also showcase the Twister-Bearing technology the unit's fan exploits, and its hybridized modular system.
