Value & Conclusion

  • The 8 GB (2x 4GB) GSkill ARES ARES F3-2400C11D-8GAB kit is available for around US$85 at various retailers.
  • Excellent performance
  • Intel XMP support for quick and easy set-up
  • Low profile heatsink to maximize compatibility with large aftermarket coolers
  • Compatible with AMD AM3+ and APU platforms
  • No need for a cooling fan on top
  • Limited colors currently available
  • A bit more costly than some other 2400 MHz DIMMs on the market
  • High-speed memory offers limited performance gains that depend on the application used
The GSkill ARES ARES F3-2400C11D-8GAB kit does everything it is supposed to do, which is to provide decent performance and wide compatibility at a decent price, and going by my results here, it does all of that well. I have had some complaints in the past about rating single-side DDR3 DIMMs too highly, but those complaints have been from benchmarkers concerned with extremes rather than the daily goodness that such sticks can provide when tuned right, which is exactly what G.skill has on offer with their ARES line-up.

If all you are looking for is a kit that will knock your socks off with its overclocking capabilities, you had best look elsewhere. That is most definitely NOT what the ARES sticks are all about. They offer decent performance at more down-to-earth speeds that are higher than the bog-standard 1600 MHz. Got a set of your own and need some help getting it set up? Hit me up on the forums!
