A Closer Look

The Prolimatech Black Series Genesis is certainly an eyecatcher, with its ninety matte black aluminum fins and nickle-plated copper heatpipes and base; and the contrast between its nickle-plated copper and matte black fins really makes the heatsink stand out. Granted, the design itself already does a great job in that regard.

At just 800 g with no fans, the cooler is billed as being light. Contrary to that its weight with fans easily fits into the heavyweight category, though it is still lighter than many competing products.

The six 6 mm heatpipes are uniquely shaped and extend through both fin stacks. Due in part to the small size of its fins, the heatpipes are arranged in a straightforward manner; no crazy layering or crossing here. The connections at the base are very solid; however, there are a few gaps along its edge. These gaps do not extend any further than the outer edge. Only a few millimeters deep on one heatpipe, these will, in fact, not affect cooling.

The Black Series Genesis has a slight convex base without a mirror finish. My sample actually had a bit of what would appear to be chemical residue. Whether this is due to the sticky plastic sheet that covered the base I do not know, though I easily got rid of the residue with a bit of rubbing alcohol.

Prolimatech provided two Ultra Sleek Vortex 14 fans. At just 15 mm in height, they are much thinner than traditional 25 mm thick fans. They also required specific fan clips to be mounted to the cooler. The fans are PWM models with an RPM range of 500-1000.
