Value and Conclusion

  • The SoundGraph iMON VFD can be had for $109 Dollars at Digitalconnection. European readers can get theirs at quite a few etailers starting at around the same price, but in €uros.
  • Great and easy installation
  • Great look, no round, bulged parts, just a clean VFD
  • Very responsive remote control
  • A lot of functions on the remote, all specifically for controlling the PC
  • No complex setup after software installation
  • iMEDIAN a solid piece of software
  • VFD is bright and responsive
  • Very customizable output to display
  • VFD software very easy to use
  • Plug-in support for other programs
  • Volume control knob with mute function
  • IR remote control works quite well
  • VFD works with SoundGraph's 2.4GHz remotes
  • Available in silver or black, perfect for HTPCs
  • A bit expensive, the Thermaltake Media Lab can be had at around $80.
  • Front made of plastic, not aluminum
  • Volume knob not very sturdy
  • News and weather cannot be localized
  • May not work with your TV tuner card
  • Display stays on when PC is turned off
The SoundGraph iMON VFD is a great addition to any case and will make your live a lot easier when you watch a lot of movies or just want to listen music. The $109 is a bit on the expensive side, considering that other offers cost more than $30 US Dollars less and come with an aluminum front. On the other hand, you will get hardware directly from the manufacturer which means you will get the software directly from the source and will also have a volume control which the Media Lab from Thermaltake lacks. The software included lets you control virtually every program installed on your PC. Once you are used to the comfortable remote and VFD, you will most likely wonder how you managed to watch movies and play music without them.
