Final Thoughts and Conclusion

  • The ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X KILLER is available for around $200.
  • Packed with GAMING features to keep your system fast and ready-to-game
  • Decent audio performance without having to change any settings
  • Includes subscription to XSplit
  • Excellent software package that caters to gamers of all types
  • Wide-open BIOS ready for tweaking to the limit
  • Fully functional AMI UEFI BIOS that includes mouse functionality and support for 3 TB+ drives
  • No Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
  • No Intel Thunderbolt
  • Stock performance is good at times, but power consumption is excessive
  • SATA Express interface not working properly with our test drive
  • Color scheme used may not appeal to all
I cannot help but be a bit disappointed in the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X KILLER. First, my ASUS SATA Express drive did not work. Well, alright, the board used an early BIOS, so I updated to the most recent BIOS, but that did not work either.

With the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X KILLER providing decent performance and power consumption when overclocked, I cannot help but hold a bit of love for this board and its lovely red and black color scheme. What can I say, I just love red and black, and this board combines those colors quite well, and once tuned manually, it also does well, really well. Yet how many "gamers" have the know-how to do so?

So there you have it: The ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X KILLER can be good, but is not THAT good right now because it badly needs BIOS updates. Consider it against the competition out there and you may also find more affordable options with a similar feature set, but as a complete package, the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X Killer could truly be KILLER if you can wait for that BIOS update.
