Performance

As the many Atom based platforms only differ in chipset used - mostly Intel or NVIDIA ION, it will be interesting to see how the added AMD graphics card will change things. To gage the general performance, Futuremark PCMark was used as a comparison, while 3DMark is utilized to gage the very general graphical performance, to get an understanding about the usability of the Radeon Mobility HD 5430 in such a setting.

Power Consumption

As this system does not offer a classical Atom or Fusion platform, the power draw at standby, idle, gaming and during movie playback was noted. The MC001-BD is on par with one would expect to see in an Atom based system, but due to the combination between the Intel Atom and AMD Radeon, the power requirements are a tad bit higher than those of a current Fusion offering.

CPU Utilization

The ARCTIC MC001-BD can easily play back 1080P movies without any trouble. CPU utilization is on par with other, similar Atom systems. This is expected, as the GPU takes care of most of the work.

Temperatures

Even though ARCTIC employs a completely passive solution the unit is always stable. The above are the absolute highest temperatures noted during use. As you can see the Radeon Mobility is quite hot when really pushed with Furmark for 20 minutes. Considering the fact, that the benchmark pushes the GPU beyond what any traditional 3D application would, so you can rest assured that the MC001-BD will always manage to keep going (and going and going...).
