Value and Conclusion

  • The Cooler Master Cosmos S will set you back $249 US Dollars or 209 €. This is actually the same price of the original Cosmos when it was launched in Europe. Everyone in the US should be noticing the inflation as the Cosmos S costs a whooping 50 US Dollars more than the Cosmos at launch.

9.7Cooler Master has taken the very unique Cosmos and taught it a few new tricks. Gone is the heavy steel construction, which is now all Aluminum. This makes the case around 3 kg lighter than the original. The Cosmos S no longer has a door, but uses the trusted and true mesh cover system of the Stacker series - almost. The only downside is the fact, that these covers are quite loose as Cooler Master is using more plastic components in the front mechanism than in the past. Nonetheless, that is the only real gripe I have with the Cosmos S. The red lighting accents and the touch control power button are a very nice change. The soft plastic top has given way for a very sturdy metal top cover, which can hold three fans so that you may use a triple radiator within the case. Considering the size of the case, Cooler Master could have made this the first case to have nine expansion slots for exotic boards like the Foxconn Quad Crossfire we have been seeing everywhere.
The fans, especially the 200 mm one, are very quiet when connected to the mainboard. The large side fan is the perfect step up from the 140 mm one in the original Cosmos. The push to secure and release any installed 5.25" devices is the best screwless implementation I have ever seen and really works incredibly well. Cooler Master has taken the award winning design of the Cosmos made it lighter, pimped it up so it will look even better under your desk - and called it Cosmos S.
