Ripple Measurements

In the following table you will find the ripple levels that we measured on the main rails of GS800. According to ATX specification the limits are 120 mV (+12V) and 50 mV (5V & 3.3V).

Ripple Measurements
Test12 V5 V3.3 VPass/Fail
20% Load9.8 mV6.4 mV4.4 mVPass
40% Load19.8 mV10.8 mV6.2 mVPass
50% Load22.8 mV12.4 mV6.2 mVPass
60% Load27.8 mV14.8 mV6.8 mVPass
80% Load41.6 mV20.8 mV7.8 mVPass
100% Load60.6 mV26.8 mV8.8 mVPass
Crossload 115.8 mV19.8 mV8.4 mVPass
Crossload 264.2 mV28.2 mV8.8 mVPass
Ripple/noise suppression on the 3.3V rail is excellent! For the two other rails, +12V and 5V, the maximum ripple we measured was equal to the half of the respective limit set by ATX for each rail, a good performance but surely not among the best we have seen.

Ripple at Full Load

In the following oscilloscope screenshots you can see the AC ripple and noise that the main rails registered (+12V, 5V, 3.3V). The bigger the fluctuations on the oscilloscope's screen the bigger the ripple/noise. We set 0.01 V/Div (each vertical division/box equals to 0.01V) as standard but sometimes we are forced to use 0.02 V/Div, meaning that the fluctuations will look smaller but actually this wont be the case.

Ripple at Crossload 2

As above the order of images is +12V, 5V and 3.3V.
