Value and Conclusion

  • The Corsair HX1050 retails for $229.99
  • Handled full power at 50°C ambient
  • High efficiency
  • +12V rail remained within 3% regulation range
  • Excellent ripple/noise suppression
  • All measured rails registered low voltage drops during Advanced Transient Response Tests (however 3.3V almost failed in the 2nd one)
  • Lots of connectors, including six PCIe and two EPS
  • Seven years warranty
  • High price
  • Worse than 3% voltage regulation (5V & 3.3V)
  • Not all PCIe & EPS connectors can be used at the same time
Corsair's HX1050 addresses the users that can not afford the high price of the mighty AX1200 or simply don't need 1200W of power. The successor of the legendary HX1000W uses a completely different platform, which grants it almost Gold efficiency levels and ultra low ripple on all rails. The only downside of the new platform is the somehow loose voltage regulation on all major rails, but in order to increase efficiency some manufacturers choose to sacrifice tight voltage regulation, or at least a part of it.

Overall the Corsair HX1050 proved to be a good performer which for sure is worthy of its high price. With the six PCIe connectors that it's equipped it can easily feed three high-end VGAs along with other power hungry components. Also even at high loads the fan will work very efficient and runs quiet enough. Adding the seven years of warranty makes the HX1050 a very attractive deal.
