A Closer Look

The cooler uses a baseplate made from copper which transfers the heat to a number of aluminum fins. Please note how there are still eight memory pads on the cooler even though only six memory chips are installed. This is a clear sign that the cooler assembly is used on another product as well. The print on the cooler is protected by a thin plastic foil which can be peeled of to reveal a high quality shiny print.


This card is compatible with SLI and can be paired with any other 8800 GS card.


The power connector on the back is required to supply power to the card. It is also required when running in PCI-E 2.0 mode, which would be able to supply all power over the bus.


The GDDR3 memory chips are made by Samsung and carry the model number K4J52324QE-BJ1A. With 1.0 ns latency they are good for up to 1000 MHz. Since the card's default memory clock is 800 MHz you can expect some massive memory overclocking with this card.


As mentioned before, the GPU is the NVIDIA G92 with a smaller number of shaders and ROPs. The 8800 GS has 6 out of 8 shader clusters activated, and 3 out of 4 ROP partitions. From all I know there is no way to unlock the extra pipelines in this GPU, but you never know.
