Value and Conclusion

  • The Enermax Revolution X't 430 W retails for $64.99.
  • Affordable
  • Efficient
  • Tight enough voltage regulation on +12V
  • Low inrush current
  • 2x PCIe connectors (while most units in this category only have one)
  • Lots of SATA connectors for its capacity
  • Flat and all-black cables (both native and modular)
  • Compact dimensions
  • Long enough warranty period
  • Couldn't deliver its full power at 45°C
  • Low hold-up time
  • Load regulation on the minor rails wasn't so tight
  • +12V ripple suppression could be better
  • Large deviations on 3.3V in our Advanced Transient Response tests
This is one of the last Enermax-made PSUs since the latest news tell us that the company will shut their own facilities down to use those of another OEM (Channel Well Technology), which probably won't affect quality adversely since CWT is a very good OEM with advanced manufacturing lines. The new constellation will also allow Enermax to offer their products at better prices. So far, the major problem with almost all Enermax PSUs is their high price in comparison to the competition. You see, Enermax preferred to sell their products under their own brand, which meant they couldn't compete in terms of price because their production lines weren't large enough to price their units competitively. Their cooperation with CWT will hopefully put an end to the dilemma in favor of well-priced Enermax PSUs instead.

The small Revolution X't unit performed decently in my tests, and its major advantage is its good price. Most common systems don't need more than a 450-500 W PSU, and it is a waste of money to buy much stronger PSUs to power them. This Enermax unit will fit a single-VGA system with mainstream components like a glove, offering reliability and good efficiency along with very little noise output while operating under day-to-day conditions. Also take into account that it is covered by a hefty warranty and comes equipped with many connectors for its capacity, and I see no reason why you shouldn't include it on your buying list; that is, if you need a compact, low-capacity PSU.
