Value & Conclusion

  • The Thecus N2200 retails for €169 (including VAT) in Europe.
  • Low power usage
  • Reasonable performance
  • Low price
  • Plenty of features
  • Compact
  • Support for Wifi dongle
  • External power adapter
  • Can't upgrade a single disk into a RAID 1 array
  • Web interface pauses a lot to load
  • Few options for advanced users
The N2200 is an attractively priced NAS which still performs at acceptable levels. This is specially true for the intended market, which likely has many small files (office documents, holiday pictures, etc) instead of huge files. Being both compact and silent and using little power you won't know it's there and it's hardly a problem to keep it on 24/7. Even if this is so you can schedule the times it should turn on and off.
The downside of the simplicity is for the advanced users who wish to modify it, past the module system there is no room to customize the N2200. To be honest, I can't say this is a real issue since we already established that such users are not the target market.
