Value and Conclusion

  • The Thermaltake Element T case has an MSRP of $89.99 US Dollars.
  • Solid construction
  • Plenty of room for hard drives - up to 6.
  • PSU bay works well
  • Good airflow around the CPU
  • Fans are fairly quiet
  • Possibilty to add three more fans
  • Real 3.5 inch bay
  • Plenty of space around the mainboard
  • Thumb screws for expansion cards, hard and optical drives
  • Well placed I/O & buttons
  • Informative packaging
  • Expansion slot covers cannot be secured properly for transport
  • Bumps instead of real spacers on tray
  • Not nearly enough screws to fill the case to the rim
  • Tool-less system for HDD no good
  • Only one tool-less lock for the optical drives
  • No front fans to cool the hard drives
  • Sharp edges in the PSU area and around the front construction of the frame
  • Water cooling holes not well placed
  • Features for pros missing - eSATA and Firewire
  • Side panel with large opening allows dust to enter and noise to exit case
It is unclear who this case is aimed at. Thermaltake has taken several opportunities to convey to us that the Element series is aimed at the professional user. This includes the theme on the packaging. Thus, I was surprised to read the short list of features, which clearly goes after the gamer market for midrange cases. This same problem is apparent in the feature set of the Element T.
You can stuff six hard drives into the case on one hand, but there are missing features like a Firewire or eSATA connector up front. Then you get red LED lighting and a locking system for your cables, but loose expansion slot covers which cannot be secured at all. That results in a case which will leave you wanting more, no matter what type of user you are. The Element T has a solid frame and when filled with fans should offer exceptional cooling quality, but this is offset by a low quality front. All this makes it hard to recommend the Element T, as we aren't satisfied neither from the gamer aspect nor the professional's point of view.
