A Closer Look

Zalman has decided to perforate the entire upside of the unit, so that air may reach every part of the notebook underside. There is no ledge to stop the portable device from sliding down, so two dots and a strip have been placed on the surface to supply the needed friction. The model name has been printed on the bottom right corner, while the Zalman logo can be found on the rear bend.

While the top is made of a solid and fairly thick aluminum sheet, the underside is constructed purely of black plastic. This reduces the overall weight, does feel well built, but still creates a contrast in quality. There are two feet, which can be flipped up to raise the unit further up - much like traditional keyboards.

A small compartement is meant to hold the USB cable. The cover on our sample is very loose and comes off very easily. Simple shaking the NC2000 resulted in seperation of the part. After talking to Zalman about this, it became apparent that this should not be a problem with the NC2000. A USB port on the left side has been placed there, so that you will have the same number of USB ports available when using the unit. On the right side you will find the USB port to power the notebook cooler, an on/off switch and a little wheel to adjust the overall speed of the cooler. An LED light should make it easy to check wether the fans are on or not.

Placing the Macbook Pro on the NC2000 shows, that the overall size of the cooler is perfect for 15.4 inch notebooks. While larger, 17 inch variants should fit, those may just be a bit larger than the cooling pad itself.
