The platform that the PSU utilizes can "only" deliver Gold efficiency in an effort to restrict the production cost and bring down the final price of the product. The maximum operating temperature is restricted to 40°C although we are pretty sure that this unit can easily deliver its full power up to 50°C. Be Quiet most likely lowered the ambient because the fan's speed will increase and output a lot of noise at higher ambient temperatures - something that is inconsistent with the company's main strategy surrounding silent products.

The P10-PRO-1000 is equipped with all available protection features including the rare OTP (Over Temperature Protection) that is crucial for a PSU. According to Be Quiet, the cooling fan uses Fluid Dynamic Bearings and, as you can see from the table above, its max RPM is really high. The fan control circuit will, hopefully, not allow it to reach near top speeds where the noise level would be high. The unit is longer than others, reaching 19 cm in length. You should, before buying it, make sure that it is supported by your chassis. The warranty is set at five years and the price, for the features this PSU offers, looks good as well.

There are four +12V rails, with two of them being able to deliver up to 30A, while the rest are much stronger with 45A max. For those of you that don't like multi-rail PSUs because you need a plan on how the connectors will be utilized according to which rail feeds them and the devices they will power, a flip of a switch (or via a small jumper) will convert the PSU into a single +12V rail one. The minor rails are pretty strong at 150 W combined. The 5VSB rail could be a little stronger since we are talking about a 1 kW unit here. For a contemporary system, 3A at this rail will, nevertheless, suffice in most cases.

This unit is, as you can see, equipped with a huge number of connectors we usually only find in such a quantity in 1.5 kW PSUs. Be Quiet, as it seems, wanted to make sure that this unit will be able to power every system out there and with nine PCIe, three EPS (two are available at the same time) and numerous SATA and peripheral connectors, this is absolutely true. Here we should praise Be Quiet's foresight since they kept in mind, during the design phase of this PSU, that a mainboard which supports up to four high-end VGAs also needs an additional PCIe connector to provide some extra juice, in addition to the two EPS connectors. They, as such, equipped the PSU with an additional 6 pin PCIe connector besides the eight normal ones used by the VGAs. All other PSUs of this category feature an even number of PCIe connectors, forcing you to use an adaptor for this extra PCIe.

All cables are long enough and future buyers of this PSU won't have any compatibility problems with enormous full-tower cases. We would, nevertheless, like to see an additional 50 mm on the 24 pin ATX cable. The distance among connectors is, finally, ideal. All PCIe and EPS connectors use AWG16 gauges for lower voltage drops with all other connectors utilizing AWG18 gauges.

Power Distribution

12V2EPS1, EPS2, EPS3
12V3PCIe1, PCIe2, PCIe3, PCIe4

Power distribution is ideal since the EPS connectors don't get mixed up with the PCIe ones and the latter are fed by the stronger +12V rails.
