Windows 10 May 2019 Update 1903 Goes Live

Microsoft today officially released Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903). Distributed in a regionally phased manner over Windows Update, and on-demand through the Upgrade Assistant tool or downloadable as fresh installation media, Windows 1903 is the year's first major update. It adds several user-interface improvements, such as a more functional Start Menu, a vastly improved search system, a more functional Action Center, handy new features to Explorer, and several under-the-hood improvements. To gamers, it introduces support for standardized variable-rate shading in Direct3D games and applications, which when implemented correctly, can vastly improve performance and details in games.

Prima.VeraHow to disable Craptana for good and also new Telemetry settings?
Also, after applying this it looks like the CPU patches for Specter, Meltdown and other craps are also applied too. A quick test in some of my games shows a FPS reduction of a couple of frames, so can anyone please advise how to remove those unnecesary "security" patches (for me)
please?

Thank you..
Fair enough on Cortana and Telemetry, but the entire rest of your post is just ridiculous FUD based on a terrible understanding of the update and/or security patches you're whining about.

"A couple of frames" is test variance at best. TPU already has an article on the frontpage showing that the new build is actually slightly *faster* across all games tested than the previous one (Although not enough to matter to anyone).

Additionally, the spectre patches and whatnot have essentially no performance impact anymore. They never really *DID* have a performance impact for most users - at most 5%, with the very first patches, which have long since been replaced by more optimised solutions that aren't detrimental.

If you do insist on being exactly the kind of luddite that makes the internet worse for everyone by inevitably becoming part of a botnet thanks to your opposition to being safe online, then you can always downgrade to Windows 7.

So, I installed this version on my new R5 2600 last night and the Nvidia 430.64 driver is telling me that it does not support this version of Windows.. lol Great! Anyone else having this issue?

EDIT: Using the Nvidia Geforce Experience worked fine. It downloaded the 430.64 driver and installed it... lol

Could be complaining about the Standard driver vs the new DCH driver.

Made the mistake of trying out the DCH in place of the Standard driver, afterwards it wouldn't allow me to revert to the standard driver.

Also forgot mention there's no Nvidia control panel included with the DCH driver. Have to use the Nvidia app from the Microsoft store.

Yes but the app literally just chainloads the old Control Panel so not much changed.

Anybody knows why my Windows says it's up-to-date where I'm still stuck with version 1809?

It is. It is checking if it has all the patches that are available for 1809.

Also, you are on Pro, so it delays the feature ipdate automatically. Itputs you on the semi-annual (business) channel. Have you gone into system settings and further delayed the amount of time between feare updayes?

Nope, I the only update settings I changed is enabling "receive updates for other" and disabling "delivery optimization".

By the way I downloaded the iso for 1903 and the installer refuses to update because my PC is not supported. After disabling my internet and re-run the installer, the update works just fine.

Ok then, the only reason you’d not have gotten it automatically yet is because MS considers Pro users business users, and those are the last people they want to piss off.

I know, right?! Consumers are considered their testers. That’s why I am always a year behind with mine.

For the Home version not everyone gets it at the same time to prevent overloaded servers.

Does using the USB tool allow you to upgrade your existing installation, or does it wipe your HD?

Reason I'm asking, is I keep getting the error:

Which leads me to find info saying that it's regarding an external storage error. Well, unplugging all my drives still makes it not load...

The install also failed on my laptop, giving the same error.

I ended up finally getting it working, only for the install to corrupt my start menu. Not being able to fix it, I had to do a clean install

So how'd you get past that initial error message, what device or software was not compatible?

I guess it was the battleye stuff. I thought I clicked the help error when it was originally released, but maybe I didn't. I can't remember.

I ended up downloading AppRPS to see which apps were blocking the install. Battleye was one of them, but it didn't specify a path where it was located. I ended up manually deleting everything because the Battleye uninstaller wasn't working for whatever reason.

After I got Battleye removed, AppRPS was giving me errors for some files in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther with the name HumanReadable in it - Something generated by the 1903 installer.

So yeah, eventually it went.

On my desktop, the upgrade corrupted my start menu causing freezing when I tried to open it. Not being able to find a fix, I ended up doing a fresh install.

On my laptop, the install went fine. I ended up rolling it back though because my precision mouse drivers lost all their enhanced settings.

Troublesome to say the least lol.
