ASUS Bets on Domestic 10 Gbps Ethernet with Two New Consumer-Grade Products
With 802.11ac and WLAN standards getting faster by the day, wired Ethernet is going the way of the dinosaur, at least in case of home (domestic) markets. ASUS is betting against this trend, and believes that if marketed properly, there's scope for 10 Gbps Ethernet (802.3ae-2002) to dominate domestic markets such as high-end gaming networks and home-studios. To this effect, the company launched two new products styled for the home - the XG-U2008 switch, and the ROG-10G add-on 10 Gbps Ethernet card included with certain ROG motherboards, which could probably also be sold separately.
The XG-U2008 is an unmanaged or plug-n-play 10-port switch with two 10 GbE ports, and eight 1 GbE ports. In full-duplex mode, this works out to 20 Gbps per 10 GbE port; and 2 Gbps per 1 GbE port. This should let you plug-in NAS servers with 10 GbE to one of the ports, your desktop to the other, and a WLAN router or other desktops to the 1 GbE ports. The ROG-10G card, on the other hand, sits across a PCI-Express gen 2.0 x4 host interface, and features a Tehuti Networks TN9710-class single-port 10 GbE controller. It comes included with the Maximus VIII Extreme/Assembly motherboard for now, although one can't discount the possibility of ASUS selling it separately.

Razer Reinforces Audio Business by Acquiring Majority of THX Assets
In a bid to reinforce its audio business, Razer has now acquired the majority of THX's assets. THX, which was founded in 1983 by George Lucas, has for the past thirty-three years focused on cinema audio systems, home audio systems, and audio certification. It is now to operate as an independent subsidiary of Razer, under its own management and the leeway to run its own operations and make its own business decisions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though Razer stressed that it intends to maintain all of THX's management and staff.
It is expected that this won't bring about major changes to THX's business model; their main focus points, namely Certification (testing and validation that a given system has passed a set of criteria determined by THX); THX Live! (focused in the audio experience unto itself, whether at cinema-like venues or at home); and THX Inside (focused on hardware's underlying technologies), are to continue operating within their given framework. That said, THX will now further expand their Certification programme to additional lines of products: headphones, Bluetooth speakers, streaming video, set-top boxes, and connected speakers, which are all, unsurprisingly, part of Razer's product portfolio.

ATP Introduces Industry's First DDR3L-1866 ECC SO-DIMM
ATP, the leading manufacturer of high performance DRAM and flash memory solutions, has announced the industry's first DDR3L ECC SODIMM technology capable of operating at 1866MHz. The ATP DDR3L-1866 modules are available with capacities of 4GB and 8GB and address the need for low voltage (1.35V) DDR3 memory running at 1866MHz (instead of 1600 MHz). As a result they can maximize system performance when used in conjunction with Intel Apollo Lake processors.
The new ECC SODIMM is available in both commercial temperature (CT 0°C to 85°C) and industrial temperature grade (IT -40°C to 95°C) options, providing the flexibility to meet the operating conditions of a wide variety of IoT (internet of things) systems. The industrial temperature range durability feature is especially beneficial in harsh environments and embedded applications such as industrial IoT and automation devices, telecommunication systems, healthcare technology and outdoor data collection systems.

AMD to Supply Cloud Server Chips to China's Alibaba
In another business-deal-gone-right for Advanced Micro Devices Inc. in chinese soil, the company is now going to provide China's Alibaba giant with server chips with which to power the company's cloud vision. Whilst Alibaba is most commonly known due to its e-commerce activities (through the Aliexpress and Taobao brands), the chinese company is diversifying, even going so far as entering the entertainment space. Now, Alibaba is bidding to carve itself an even larger piece of the cloud market from the likes of Microsoft's Azure and Amazon's Web Services.
The deal was announced this Friday at the Alibaba Computing Conference by Lisa Su (AMD's CEO) and Simon Hu (president of Alibaba Cloud, the chinese giant's cloud computing arm). Through it, AMD will see its Radeon Pro chips supporting and expanding upon the increasingly-in-demand cloud computing capabilities of the chinese company, which already powers around 35% of China's websites.

Intel 8000p - The First Consumer-Grade 3D Xpoint Products
The Intel-Micron joint collaboration in the development of what is promised to be the next step in storage technology is inching ever closer to reality. According to Bench Life, which published a leaked specifications list for the upcoming Intel Optane Memory products, the first application for consumer-grade 3D XPoint technology straddles the line between an SSD and system RAM. Intel calls it a "System Accelerator" solution, and it's meant to operate as an intermediate caching solution between a system's RAM and storage. Codenamed "Stony Beach", Intel's 8000p (and entire 3D XPoint-based products) support is still up in the air, but it's expected that only Kaby Lake and subsequent platforms will be compatible with the technology - which, if true, is sure to limit the product's market penetration.
The consumer products will initially sport capacities of either 16GB or 32GB, leveraging the NVMe protocol at PCIe Gen 3.0 x2 bandwidth in the M.2 form-factor. Mirroring NAND technology, the greater capacity solution will sport the highest performance: with the 16GB part coming in at 1400 MB/s read and 300 MB/s write speeds, against the 32 GB's 1600 MB/s and 400 MB/s, respectively. We see similar results in regards to IOPS, with the 16GB solution offering up to 285,000 read and 70,000 write operations per second, against the 32 GB's solution respective 300,000 read and 120,000 write. As usual with new technologies, expect all these metrics to only go up in time.

$50,000 worth of Shadow Warrior 2 Game Keys Free with GeForce Experience
Don't fancy GeForce Experience? Well, NVIDIA might have just made an argument for you to at least give it a try.
Shadow Warrior 2 has just left the oven (with no DRM) to early rave reviews, both with critics and on Steam, and now, a digital copy can be yours for the low, low price of $0. In a move to bolster the ranks of its GeForce Experience users, NVIDIA is now giving away copies of the game - and all you have to do is register your account with NVIDIA, download the latest GeForce Experience 3.0, login, and cross your fingers that you're one of the randomly-chosen lucky winners. If you already are registered, though, fret not - just make sure your app is updated and make sure to log in.
GeForce Experience allows you to not only have automatic, profile-based optimizations for your library of games, but also make use of its ShadowPlay game recording and capture software, among other features.

Newegg Now Owned by Chinese Company
The Wall Street Journal's earlier report about an expected record-setting 2016 in regards to chinese investment in the United States was right. Newegg Inc., one of the most popular online tech-related retailers, is now reportedly owned by chinese company Hangzhao Liaison Interactive Information Technology Co., Ltd. (Liaison Interactive).
After September's reports of a significant investment from the Chinese company on Newegg, which would allow the California-based company to "accelerate the pursuit of the company's strategic initiatives" and into high-growth markets such as eSports, VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality), it now appears that the investment was much more than a simple capital infusion: it was a bid towards controlling an effective majority in the American company's shares.
