HIS Readying AGP HD 4670

ATI partners continue to show love to AGP users. HIS and PowerColor in particular, have been planning AGP graphics cards based on mid-range, current-generation Radeon HD 4000 series GPUs for a while now. It looks HIS is the first one to materialise them, with the HIS HD 4670 IceQ AGP. The company came up with another of its IceQ series designs, sporting the iconic IceQ cooler, and the blue PCB. The graphics card holds all the more importance to AGP platform users, as the Radeon HD 4670 packs 7.1 channel HDCP compliant audio passed over HDMI.

The card uses the AGP-8X interface. It draws auxiliary power from a 4-pin Molex connector. Under the hood is a Radeon HD 4670 GPU clocked at 750 MHz, with 1 GB of GDDR3 memory over a 128-bit interface, clocked at 873 MHz (1746 MHz DDR). Output is care of a DVI, D-Sub, and audio-routed HDMI. It is priced at US $129.99 on Amazon, with an optional rebate sending it down to $119.99.

I wouldn't say "pwn". Perhaps a little better. I wouldn't mind this card for my work computer as playing some stuff with my 9800SE just isn't happening anymore.

Such a waste when ATI isnt supporting their AGP X1K cards and higher models properly, Can't find a proper Win 7 Driver, i wouldnt recommend this without the CPU being a Dual core.

AGP cards are more expensive than the corresponding PCI-E ones.

If you use the PCI-E counterparts to judge, no. The HD4670 will be about 10-15% slower, but will also consume a lot less power...

Im talking about comparing both AGP cards. Which will be better (idc about power) the 3850 or this card? I still have an AGP rig i like to marginally keep updated.

I would think the PCI-E performance would be a very good indicator of AGP performance.

The problem with that is the HD4670 was tested using newer drivers than the rest of the cards. Newer drivers=better performance.

The next review W1z did, where all the cards used the same driver paints a different picture: tpucdn.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_4830/images/perfrel.gif

Trust me, I replaced an HD3850 with an HD4670 based on that review, I was rather pissed to find out that performance definitely wasn't the same...

One thing to consider when upgrading an old AGP slot PC with a newer card, the HD 3850 makes A LOT of heat. Make sure your case has adequate air flow.

Modern video cards made me take the liquid cooling plunge. When I first got my 3850, could not close the case. If I did close it, it would lock up within an hour.

Im not to worried about cooling heat or power. I just wanna know if this agp 4670 is better than the agp 3850. Its looking like it wont be sadly.

the more heat that is produced, the more power required to run it, 4670 is relatively the same Performance as the 3850, just you draw less power with the 4670.

Remember ATi's Rialto chip? Yeah, they still use it on these things, and it's getting more and more expensive the less of them they produce. Plus, yeah, the AGP market is pretty low-competition. HIS now produces one among very, very few high-performance AGP cards, and they intend to milk it.

(Ironically, you could pickup an AII 250 and an AM3 motherboard for about this price.)

I don't think that's true at all. I have a Gigabyte 3850 running in a SilverStone SG01 Sugo chassis, which has very limited airflow. Mind you, it has a Zalman VF700 AlCu cooler, but the fan was so freaking loud I unplugged it and the thing is still solid as a rock. I have personally witnessed my own RV670 run at 125ºC without a hiccup soooooo... Good thing I bought the Ultra Durable model? :laugh:

For sure. I did it long ago, but went I still went liquid, plus added 2 fans. All temps are nice and cool. :cool:
