The AMD Athlon 64 FX-72 was a desktop processor with 2 cores, launched in November 2006, at an MSRP of $799. It is part of the Athlon 64 FX lineup, using the Windsor architecture with Socket F. To further increase overall system performance, up to two Athlon 64 FX-72 CPUs can work together in a multi-processor (SMP) configuration. Athlon 64 FX-72 has 1 MB of L2 cache per core and operates at 2.8 GHz. AMD is making the Athlon 64 FX-72 on a 90 nm production node using 227 million transistors. You may freely adjust the unlocked multiplier on Athlon 64 FX-72, which simplifies overclocking greatly, as you can easily dial in any overclocking frequency.
With a TDP of 125 W, the Athlon 64 FX-72 consumes a lot of power, so good cooling is definitely needed. AMD's processor supports DDR2 memory with a dual-channel interface.
